Senior Accountant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.

📋 Description

• Prepare and assess financial statements during month-end closing and reporting processes.

• Collect and analyze complex financial data to develop recommendations for senior management.

• Offer technical expertise on accounting and fiscal procedures.

• Assess accounting and reporting controls and execute corrective action plans.

• Support initiatives aimed at enhancing or facilitating accounting and reporting functions.

• Review journal entries and account reconciliations while assisting with monthly closing activities.

• Oversee or conduct GAAP/SAP accounting and reporting tasks.

• Engage in the resolution of financial accounting issues and procedural modifications.

• Establish and maintain accounting systems, charts of accounts, and reporting subsystems.

• Provide leadership, coaching, support, problem-solving assistance, and knowledge transfer.

• Investigate technical accounting pronouncements, regulatory bulletins, and industry information; prepare analyses and recommendations.

• Conduct due diligence reviews, assess deal structures, and evaluate accounting implications.

• Initiate projects for process and control improvement and participate in cross-functional finance initiatives.

• Review GAAP/SAP monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.

• Collaborate with other BCBS plans and the BCBSA to address accounting and reporting challenges.

• Assist auditors by supplying requested information, resolving issues, and drafting resolutions.

• Maintain and enhance internal controls while performing self-testing.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or higher (as required).

• 5+ years of relevant experience.

• Alternatively, 7+ years of relevant experience in the absence of a degree.

• Knowledge of insurance-specific accounting principles, including premium accounting, loss reserves, claims accounting, and reinsurance transactions.

• Advanced proficiency in ERP systems such as Oracle, SAP, Workday, or Microsoft Dynamics.

• CPA designation or progress towards CPA certification.

• Understanding of GAAP/SAP accounting and reporting standards.

• Experience with financial statements, journal entries, account reconciliations, audits, internal controls, and financial analysis.
