Senior Systems Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Wisconsin.

📋 Description

• Become a member of Northwestern Mutual’s expanding Kubernetes Platform team.

• Develop, sustain, and support container and Kubernetes platforms.

• Empower numerous developers to deploy applications and infrastructure using Kubernetes and cloud technologies.

• Exhibit technical leadership by mentoring less experienced engineers.

• Utilize engineering best practices to analyze and create software solutions.

• Implement coding standards, best practices, and automation capabilities to assist users.

• Recognize technical challenges and devise software solutions along with automation capabilities.

• Review, verify, and validate software code.

• Construct and enhance continuous integration and continuous development pipelines.

• Design, code, test, document, debug, and maintain modular and reusable software applications and services.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.

• Minimum of 4 years of professional experience.

• Over 5 years of experience in the IT field.

• At least 3 years of experience with AWS Cloud Services and containerized applications and orchestration.

• More than 5 years of experience in monitoring and performance management/tuning of systems.

• Over 5 years of experience with networking and Linux-based platforms.

• More than 5 years of experience with modern programming and scripting languages such as Python and JavaScript.

• Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code frameworks like Terraform and CloudFormation.

• Experience in working with DevOps, CI/CD, GitOps, and Agile methodologies.

• Expertise in CI/CD pipelines and automation using GitLab CI, Jenkins, CodePipeline, or CircleCI.

• Understanding of certificates, firewalls, vulnerability management, authentication, and authorization.

• Experience with unit testing.

• Proficient with Linux and Windows, including installation, configuration, management, and CLI usage.

• AWS, Docker, or Kubernetes certification is preferred.

• Strong knowledge of DevOps and Agile principles.

• Familiarity with cloud service platforms and delivery models.

• Proficiency in one or more programming languages.

• Ability to design, develop, test, document, and maintain software applications.
