This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Deliver systems engineering expertise for the modernization and maintenance of FAA ATC voice communications systems and their associated infrastructure.
• Create, assess, and enhance technical, operational, and performance requirements.
• Review current and upcoming voice switch technologies, communications systems, and network architectures.
• Assist in pre-implementation and post-implementation tasks for Voice Communication System and Advanced Portable Communications system requirements and specifications.
• Conduct industry and market research to support FAA acquisition strategies and technology modernization efforts.
• Aid in technical evaluations, source selections, engineering reviews, and vendor assessments.
• Analyze and assess ATC voice switch architectures, which include A/G trunks, G/G trunks, networking components, and interface specifications.
• Evaluate and formulate solutions that involve analog, electrical, digital, IP, and VoIP communication technologies.
• Facilitate system integration related to voice switches, network infrastructure, communication circuits, and operational support systems.
• Generate, review, and maintain engineering documentation, technical reports, design packages, interface control documents, test plans, and implementation strategies.
• Engage in system verification, validation, testing, acceptance, and deployment tasks.
• Assess system performance, operational efficiency, interoperability, reliability, maintainability, and supportability.
• Collaborate with FAA engineering teams, Tech Ops personnel, program managers, contractors, vendors, and operational stakeholders.
• Identify technical risks and devise mitigation strategies.
• Offer technical recommendations for lifecycle planning, modernization roadmaps, and strategic initiatives.
• Assist in troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution of complex communications and systems integration challenges.
• Analyze, design, develop, implement, and test software solutions that align with NAS engineering, operational, or functional requirements.
• Participate in technical interchange meetings, design reviews, milestone assessments, and engineering working groups.
• Provide technical guidance and subject-matter expertise to engineering and project teams.
• Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• Over 10 years of relevant experience, including familiarity with ATC voice communications systems.
• Must be eligible to obtain and retain FAA Public Trust / Suitability clearance.
• Understanding of FAA National Airspace System (NAS) Voice Communications Systems and Switches.
• Experience with ATC voice switch hardware/software.
• Proficiency with A/G trunk systems.
• Proficiency with G/G trunk systems.
• Experience in voice switch networking.
• Knowledge of VoIP technologies.
• Familiarity with communications systems and networks.
• Understanding of analog, electrical, and digital interfaces.
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Capability to work independently while adhering to established timelines.
• Ability to thrive in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment.
• Occasional travel to FAA and vendor locations may be necessary.
