Senior Systems Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona.

📋 Description

• Act as the primary escalation point for issues related to infrastructure, identity, and platforms.

• Lead the resolution of complex problems by employing advanced troubleshooting techniques.

• Design, construct, and sustain Windows Server, virtualization, storage, and Azure infrastructures.

• Convert requirements into comprehensive designs, build documents, configuration standards, and reference patterns.

• Assess emerging technologies and provide written recommendations.

• Conduct capacity analysis, lifecycle planning, and forecasting for growth and refresh cycles.

• Contribute to the creation of reference architectures, technical standards, and submissions for architecture reviews.

• Manage and develop Active Directory, Entra ID, Group Policy, conditional access, and privileged access configurations.

• Design and uphold Azure subscriptions, networking, computing, storage, and governance controls.

• Engineer and support Microsoft 365 workloads, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, Intune, and Purview.

• Ensure tenant separation, delegation models, and administrative boundaries in a multi-client setting.

• Design, implement, and validate backup, replication, and disaster recovery solutions.

• Secure systems, address vulnerabilities and configuration drift, and oversee patching, monitoring, alerting, and logging.

• Generate technical documentation and control artifacts that comply with HIPAA, HITRUST, and SOC 2 standards.

• Engage in infrastructure and security incident response, root cause analyses, and corrective actions.

• Implement changes through formal change management processes that include risk assessments, testing, rollback planning, and post-change validation.

• Provide support for major incidents outside of business hours as part of an on-call rotation.

• Automate administrative tasks and deployment processes using PowerShell and infrastructure-as-code tools.

• Create and maintain runbooks, build documents, as-built records, and infrastructure diagrams.

• Minimize manual efforts and configuration discrepancies through standardization and tooling.

• Offer technical guidance and mentorship without direct reporting authority.

• Review designs and proposed modifications.

• Collaborate with implementation, IT management, security, and applications teams.

• Facilitate client-facing technical discussions.

• Occasionally work in data centers and network closets and undertake limited regional and national travel.

⛳️ Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred; equivalent professional experience will also be considered.

• At least seven years of progressive experience in systems engineering, infrastructure engineering, or enterprise IT operations.

• Extensive hands-on experience with Windows Server administration, configuration, and troubleshooting.

• Significant hands-on experience with virtualization technologies, including VMware or Hyper-V.

• Experience managing Azure infrastructure and Microsoft 365 administration at scale.

• Proven experience in designing and testing backup and disaster recovery solutions for production environments.

• Familiarity with formal change management processes and experience serving as a senior escalation point.

• Experience in managed services or multi-client environments is preferred.

• Strong preference for candidates with healthcare IT experience.

• Must reside in a HOPCo corporate or clinical market.

• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation and work during after-hours and weekend maintenance windows.

• Ability to document work to a level that is usable by engineers and auditors.

• Position is based in the United States, supporting operations within the United States.

• Legal authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship is required.

• Knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, Entra ID, Group Policy, identity and access management, virtualization, storage, backup and recovery, Azure, Microsoft 365, networking, security, scripting, automation, IT service management, HIPAA, HITRUST, and SOC 2 is essential.

• Microsoft Azure or Microsoft 365 certifications, VMware or Hyper-V credentials, and ITIL Foundation certification are preferred.
