Senior Structural Engineer – Substation Focus

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado.

📋 Description

• Serve as the structural lead and engineer of record for substations, switchyards, and various electrical infrastructure projects.

• Conduct engineering calculations and create analytical models for the design of structural steel and concrete.

• Collaborate with Project Engineers and Project Managers to establish workload forecasts, design schedules, and budgets.

• Support proposal efforts by assisting with task and effort estimates.

• Contribute to the business development strategy focused on substations and high-voltage electrical infrastructure.

• Work alongside civil/structural design teams to finalize engineering drawings.

• Collaborate across disciplines for general arrangements and vendor procurement packages.

• Create, revise, and enforce group-specific standards.

• Draft technical reports, presentations, project specifications, and contract documents.

• Review and confirm the accuracy of peer and group work.

• Mentor junior civil/structural engineers and aid in the development of departmental standards.

• Travel occasionally to AECOM locations and client sites.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline, along with 6 years of relevant experience, or a proven equivalent of experience and/or education.

• A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience is mandatory.

• Proven experience in structural design for overhead and underground transmission and distribution systems.

• Background in substation projects is essential.

• Professional Engineering Licensure (PE) is required.

• A preferred 10 years of experience, including at least 3 years in a structural engineering lead or engineer of record capacity.

• In-depth knowledge of industry codes and standards such as NESC, G.O.95, ASCE, IEEE, AISC 360, ASCE 7, IBC, ACI 318, RUS, and NEC.

• Experience in complex, multi-discipline programs/projects and CAD teams is required.

• Proficient in executing work within 3D modeling environments.

• Professional experience in modeling, analyzing, and designing steel structures and foundations.

• Familiarity with various voltage levels is necessary.

• Expertise in PLS-CADD packages, including PLS-Tower and PLS-Pole.

• Competence with structural analysis and design software such as STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, MFAD, and L-Pile.

• Experience working collaboratively with remote teams.

• Involvement in full EPC and Design/Build projects from inception to completion.

• Owner’s Engineering experience is advantageous.

• Background with retrofit or brownfield projects is beneficial.

• Ability to participate in-person on Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office.

• Must be eligible to work in the United States; sponsorship is available.
