Senior Structural Engineer – Substation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Conduct design evaluations for civil/structural design elements related to substation bid and construction packages.

• Act as a senior engineer, leading substation engineering projects.

• Mentor and develop junior staff members.

• Execute and assess designs for substation structures, rigid bus, foundations, oil spill containment, retaining walls, control shelters, and firewalls.

• Engage in site visits at client substation facilities.

• Occasionally travel for client meetings and industry events.

• Function as a senior member of a design team that includes engineers, designers, and drafting technicians.

• Uphold quality control, safe work practices, and ensure compliance with project scope, schedule, and budget.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor of Science (BS) in Civil-Structural Engineering with 5+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's (MS) degree with 3+ years of applicable experience.

• PE License in California, Washington, or Oregon is preferred, or the capability to obtain licensure in these states within 3-12 months.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MATHCAD software.

• Experience with RISA 3D and/or STAAD.Pro, SAG10, FAD, or LPile software.

• Familiarity with AutoCAD and MicroStation.

• Strong analytical abilities and technical writing skills.

• Effective communication skills for interacting with clients and team members.

• Background in structural design engineering and review.

• Significant experience in the electric utility industry is strongly preferred.

• Knowledge of steel structures, concrete structures, geotechnical engineering, and foundations.

• Experience in designing substation structures, rigid bus, foundations, oil spill containment, retaining walls, concrete and masonry control shelters, and firewalls is preferred.

• Familiarity with structures and foundations under seismic loading conditions is preferred.

• Ability to manage project scope, schedule, and budget expectations.
