Senior Structural Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Offer technical support and guidance for the Substation Design Team

• Lead and oversee substation engineering and consulting services for clients throughout the US

• Generate structural design deliverables and assess calculation packages

• Set department engineering standards and enhance engineering delivery through automation

• Assist with project bidding estimates, proposals, and scope development

• Prepare, guide, or support engineering deliverables for electric substation projects

• Provide leadership and mentorship to engineers, designers, and other team members

• Act as project lead or independent reviewer for assigned projects

• Complete structural designs for substations, including foundations, structural steel, equipment layouts, plans, sections, details, and bills of material

• Offer technical support to clients and aid regional business development efforts

• Lead and mentor engineering and design teams

• Collaborate with engineers, designers, and project managers on utility substation projects

• Engage in project conceptualization, work planning, and execution

• Establish, maintain, and refine structural engineering standards, calculation templates, design criteria, review procedures, and quality expectations

• Prepare calculations for studies and reports, along with equipment and installation specifications

• Coordinate design efforts with other disciplines and groups

• Develop and advocate for engineering processes, tools, and technologies that enhance quality, consistency, efficiency, and scalability

• Implement design automation workflows that integrate calculations, modeling, deliverables, quality checks, and production tools

• Provide leadership, training, and mentorship

• Communicate with clients or external partners

• Conduct quality reviews for engineers and designers

• Perform field visits for site walkdowns, constructability reviews, construction support, and site meetings as necessary

• Support business development and marketing initiatives

• Develop 3D models, reusable tools, templates, and engineering automation initiatives as required

• Collaborate with Project Management to create project plans and deliver project updates

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university, or a related field with equivalent experience

• Engineer IV: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience

• Senior Engineer I: Minimum 7 years of relevant experience and PE required

• Senior Engineer II: Minimum 10 years of relevant experience and PE required

• Senior Engineer III: Minimum 15 years of relevant experience and PE required

• Professional Engineer or Structural Engineer licensure is highly preferred

• Proficiency with applicable codes and standards

• Experience with structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and/or foundation design

• Familiarity with FEA/FEM analytical software, Hilti PROFIS, Mathcad, structural analysis tools, 3D modeling platforms, and engineering automation or scripting workflows

• Proven interest in design automation, parametric modeling, scripting, data-driven quality checks, or workflow optimization

• Capability to manage multiple complex assignments and competing priorities

• Ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional teams

• Strong analytical and decision-making abilities

• A successful history of positive interactions with clients

• Capacity to lead staff, delegate tasks and achieve positive outcomes

• Experience in creating and reviewing structural design drawings

• Ability to effectively collaborate with remotely located team members

• Must pass a post-offer drug and alcohol test, including marijuana, and agree to random testing as a condition of continued employment
