Senior Structural Analysis Engineer 1 – Nuclear

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with structural engineers and engage with engineers from various disciplines.

• Mentor and oversee the work of junior project team members.

• Contribute to engineering initiatives for new nuclear facilities as well as upgrades and modifications to existing nuclear power plants.

• Utilize expertise in materials, structural analysis, structural steel design, and reinforced concrete design.

• Prepare and evaluate design calculations.

• Create and review specifications.

• Assist designers with the development of drawings.

• Direct others in producing engineering deliverables.

• Conduct structural analysis of safety-critical structures under diverse loading scenarios, including seismic and impactive/impulsive loads.

• May travel to client and vendor locations for design assessments and visit plant sites for construction coordination and design verification in the field.

• Lead or supervise automation and process improvement tasks related to engineering calculations, technical document summaries, design documentation, and AI-enhanced workflows.

• Review automated outputs and advise on the effective use of AI or agentic AI tools.

⛳️ Requirements

• Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.

• A degree in Mechanical Engineering will also be considered.

• A minimum of five years of experience as a project team member involved in the design and analysis of structures.

• Proficient in structural analysis software such as SAP2000, STRUDL, SASSI, ANSYS, or LS-DYNA.

• Knowledgeable in analysis and design codes and standards including ASCE 4, ASCE 43, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI.

• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.

• Authorization to work in the U.S. is required; Sargent & Lundy does not sponsor employees for U.S. work authorization.

• A Ph.D. degree is valued but not a requirement.

• Experience in the design and analysis of power plant and/or industrial structures is valued but not required.

• On-site construction support experience is valued but not mandatory.

• Possession of a PE or SE license is valued but not required.

• Willingness or capability to lead others using automation and AI tools.

• Additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields, is valued but not required.
