This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.
• Enhance the public profile of Surgo Health's research in maternal and mental health through the end of 2027.
• Identify and highlight significant findings from research reports, preparing them for media and social channels.
• Create executive summaries designed for the CEO and board members.
• Develop state-specific rollout plans that integrate data with insights from youth lived experiences.
• Lead the communications campaign for the launch of the Youth Thriving Framework and Score.
• Formulate and implement an annual communications and marketing strategy that aligns with research releases, launch events, and partner priorities.
• Manage and coordinate the communications calendar.
• Oversee social media content planning for initiatives related to maternal and mental health.
• Provide guidance on online assets and ensure consistent messaging across various platforms.
• Conduct SEO audits and enhancements for the Youth Mental Health Tracker website.
• Organize launch events, partner engagements, conference activities, and in-person events.
• Lead submissions for abstracts and panels, securing speaking opportunities for researchers and leaders.
• Assist in convenings in both the US and UK.
• Plan and promote the National Youth Wellbeing Data Challenge.
• Develop and execute a media strategy that includes journalist outreach, story angles, press releases, media pitches, and maintaining relationships with reporters.
• Monitor news cycles to identify opportunities for newsjacking.
• Create press kits, key messages, talking points, and prepare spokespersons.
• Ensure a consistent, evidence-based editorial voice across all communications.
• Write and refine updates for funders, briefing memos, proposal content, and concept descriptions.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in communications.
• Proven success in earned media/PR and social media strategy.
• Experience in securing press coverage.
• Pre-existing relationships with health, women's health, and mental health journalists and key decision-makers are highly beneficial.
• Proficient in creating and strategizing social media content across multiple platforms.
• Exceptional writing and editing capabilities.
• Ability to convert technical or data-intensive content into clear, engaging narratives for the public.
• Experience writing press releases, pitches, and talking points.
• Grant or funder writing experience is an advantage.
• Capacity to work with evidentiary research and named data sources and statistics.
• A genuine interest in maternal health, women's health, and/or youth mental health.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with subject-matter experts in research, product development, and behavioral science.
• Experience in a fast-paced, mission-driven organization is preferred.
• Independent contractor/consultant status is required.
• Annual performance-based bonuses may be available.
