Senior Steelmaking Process Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Austria.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with steelmaking clients to enhance processes and boost operational efficiency.

• Evaluate slag chemistry and operational conditions to formulate technical advice and process enhancements.

• Examine refractory wear challenges, address application issues, and propose corrective measures.

• Choose and suggest refractory materials and product designs customized to meet customer specifications and operational practices.

• Facilitate technical training sessions for clients, sales personnel, and internal stakeholders.

• Partner with Sales during client visits to assess product performance and pinpoint growth opportunities.

• Assist sustainability and circular economy initiatives in collaboration with Recycling teams.

• Work closely with Research & Development, Sales, and other technical departments to create innovative solutions for customer issues.

• Provide on-site support for refractory application equipment, such as mixers, gunning machines, and associated systems.

• Ensure safety compliance during activities at customer sites and industrial locations.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field is required; a Master's degree or PhD is preferred.

• At least 10 years of experience in steelmaking, refractories, or a closely related sector.

• Industry experience may be accepted as a substitute for a formal degree.

• Extensive knowledge of refractory products, applications, and steelmaking processes, including carbon steel, stainless steel, and specialty alloys.

• Preferred experience with integrated steelmaking operations and process equipment, such as BOF, RH Degassers, and similar systems.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft 365; familiarity with SAP is a plus.

• Mechanical aptitude and a readiness to provide hands-on support in heavy industrial settings.

• Highly organized, self-driven, and able to work independently while effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams.

• Willingness and ability to travel extensively to client locations across North America (50-75%).
