Senior Staff Engineer – Senior Data Modeler

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with data stewards to capture and validate data definitions.

• Map data assets across Finance, Commercial, HR, and Marketing departments.

• Enhance metadata intake processes based on Excel/Python and explore opportunities for systemization.

• Organize definition workshops with domain owners and stakeholders.

• Suggest business definitions, descriptions, owners, related terms, and calculation logic.

• Follow up with stakeholders to ensure progress is maintained across various domains.

• Address terminology conflicts that span across multiple domains.

• Cleanse and validate inputs prior to their upload to Unity Catalog.

• Upload validated definitions and ensure their accuracy and discoverability.

• Implement lightweight governance processes to keep definitions up to date.

• Document comprehensive end-to-end processes for team handoffs.

• Capture, validate, and certify business definitions in collaboration with Data Stewards and Business Owners.

• Maintain a centralized repository for business glossary and metadata.

• Identify, catalog, and map data assets to corresponding business terminology.

• Analyze relationships between data assets and business concepts.

• Foster agreement on standardized terminology across teams.

• Establish metadata governance standards and approval workflows.

• Automate workflows for metadata collection, validation, and approval.

• Review metadata submissions for thoroughness and accuracy.

• Assist in metadata audits and remediation initiatives.

• Verify the searchability, discoverability, usability, and connections of Unity Catalog to both business and technical assets.

• Develop user guides, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and process documentation.

• Prepare handover documentation and provide training for operational teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• At least 7 years of relevant experience.

• Background in Data Stewardship.

• Familiarity with Databricks.

• Knowledge of Databricks Data Governance.

• Experience with Unity Catalog.

• Strong skills in Python (preferred).

• Experience with Power BI/Tableau (preferred).

• Familiarity with Azure Data Platform (preferred).

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel.

• Proficient in Jira/Confluence.

• Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite.
