This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Establish and model best practices while setting standards for behaviors, performance, and technical excellence in backend systems and infrastructure.
• Lead the development, reliability, and scalability of backend systems and infrastructure.
• Create a cohesive technology strategy that aligns with organizational objectives and product priorities.
• Align architectural choices for major product initiatives with their respective goals.
• Manage incidents and define as well as evaluate service level objectives.
• Maintain and update recovery plans as necessary.
• Enhance application observability and monitoring capabilities.
• Implement and oversee backend quality assurance and security protocols.
• Supervise and optimize cloud infrastructure and resource allocation, especially during peak periods like Black Friday.
• Improve CI/CD and code review processes to boost productivity, efficiency, product quality, and security.
• Assess the potential transition from a worker-based model to an event-driven approach.
• Collaborate with squad developers on daily product tasks to share knowledge and best practices.
• Contribute to technology and product initiatives actively.
• Diagnose unexpected issues that impact business operations.
• Work with cross-functional business teams to identify and articulate technical constraints.
• Shape the direction and success of ZigZag’s product and technology team.
• Proven experience as a Senior Staff Engineer in backend systems and infrastructure.
• Extensive experience in cloud architecture and infrastructure, preferably with GCP; experience with Azure or AWS is also valued.
• Strong understanding of Ruby and Ruby on Rails.
• Proficient in English.
• Good command of French is a plus.
• Expertise in managing infrastructure with a focus on scalability and reliability.
• Capable of calmly handling incidents of varying types and impacts.
• Strong willingness and capability to share knowledge.
• Eagerness and dedication to staying updated with industry trends and developments.
• Experience working across diverse environments and products is beneficial.
• Ability to navigate and optimize complex, distributed systems is an advantage.
• Must reside in the UK.
