Director I, Software Engineering – Claims Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Build and oversee highly motivated and high-performing software engineering teams.

• Recruit, mentor, and inspire team members while promoting continuous improvement, innovation, and excellence.

• Lead budgeting and planning efforts for your area of responsibility.

• Work collaboratively with product managers to assess effort, prioritize the roadmap, plan, and execute roadmap items.

• Convert product requirements into robust, modular, configurable, reusable, secure, compliant, scalable, and maintainable designs.

• Guide teams in a hands-on manner to deliver new or enhanced features and eliminate implementation obstacles.

• Collaborate with teams and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.

• Evaluate product requirements, designs, and code for quality and adherence to best practices.

• Ensure that application systems are secure, compliant, efficient, and up-to-date.

• Monitor and report key performance metrics and make data-driven operational decisions.

• Identify areas for system and process enhancements.

• Propel new features, extensive refactors, migrations, and process changes.

• Utilize CI/CD and process optimization to enhance time to market.

• Stay updated on industry trends and promote the adoption of best practices.

• Develop and advance Mercury’s application-system technical vision, strategy, and innovation.

• Represent the engineering organization and its vision to executive leadership.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or related fields, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Over 10 years of experience in software engineering.

• More than 7 years of experience in leading and managing staff.

• At least 2 years of experience managing large teams.

• Skilled in building and overseeing multiple small to medium-sized software engineering teams.

• Proficient in hiring and nurturing next-level managers and leaders.

• Experienced in project management tasks, including estimating, planning, executing, tracking, and reporting progress.

• Proficient in leading engineering teams across mobile, web, backend, data, and various technology stacks.

• Experience in designing and implementing complex, high-volume distributed application systems.

• Proficient with APIs, messaging, data streaming, workflow, integration frameworks, microservices, containers, and cloud computing.

• Experience in leveraging DevSecOps.

• Experienced in utilizing analytics data and experimentation to enhance systems.

• Proven experience in driving digital transformation, omni-channel implementation, legacy migration, cloud transformation, modernization, product and services development, and AI/ML adoption.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

• Capability to collaborate with and influence cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

• Proficient in operational excellence and best practices focusing on quality, performance, scalability, maintainability, and observability.

• Experience in driving technical strategy, vision, and innovation.

• Preferred: Master’s Degree in Computer Science.

• Preferred: Experience leading large-scale Claims technology organizations through growth, modernization, and complex transformation initiatives.

• Preferred: Deep expertise in Guidewire, Claims Center, and the insurance domain.

• Preferred: Experience in defining and executing Claims technology strategy and cloud migrations.

• Preferred: Experience in building software for the P&C Insurance Business.
