Senior Staff Attorney – Insurance Defense

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Act on behalf of Sentry insured clients and Sentry in the defense of claims and direct policy actions.

• Ensure that there are no conflicts of interest between policyholders and Sentry.

• Manage a caseload that ranges from minimally to substantially complex, from pleadings through to trial independently.

• Supervise all stages of litigation, including motion practice, depositions, expert discovery, and trial preparation.

• Provide communication and updates to policyholders and claims associates regarding litigation progress, strategy, and case developments.

• Support claims associates in mediation, arbitration, settlement, friendly suits, or court-approved resolutions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Juris Doctor Degree.

• Over 7 years of relevant work experience.

• Licensed attorney experience in at least one state.

• Background in insurance defense litigation.

• Experience in taking and defending depositions.

• Familiarity with court appearances.

• Proficient in handling dispositive motions.

• Experience in retaining expert witnesses.

• Trial experience as first chair or as a solo trial counsel.

• Valid law practice license in good standing in California.

• Capability to manage interpersonal relations where conflict and controversy arise.

• Ability to self-manage and handle a full caseload with minimal daily supervision.
