
Senior Speechwriter – Executive Communications Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Conduct research, draft, edit, and coordinate speeches, keynote addresses, prepared remarks, talking points, executive messages, event packets, briefing books, speaker biographies, panel materials, video scripts, ceremonial remarks, introductions, and other communications at the executive level.
• Create communications that genuinely reflect each executive's voice, leadership style, priorities, vocabulary, cadence, and perspective.
• Develop and enhance executive voice profiles using past speeches, interviews, correspondence, public appearances, policy priorities, and direct feedback.
• Tailor executive communications for keynotes, government engagements, conferences, webinars, panels, town halls, ceremonies, media appearances, recorded video, virtual engagements, internal workforce communications, and stakeholder events.
• Compose content for spoken delivery, utilizing pacing, transitions, rhetorical structure, storytelling, emphasis, audience interaction, and timing.
• Prepare speaker biographies, executive briefing materials, event packets, and other preparatory resources for senior leaders.
• Collaborate with event teams to grasp agendas, audiences, run-of-show requirements, objectives, and logistics.
• Convert complex Department of Defense policies, initiatives, research, data, and program information into clear, credible narratives.
• Perform substantive research to support scripts, speeches, talking points, and briefing materials.
• Acquire a working knowledge of the MC&FP mission and program portfolio.
• Link speeches and executive engagements to MC&FP strategic priorities, as well as military and family readiness.
• Assist in ensuring message alignment across executive engagements, communications products, organizational priorities, and approved messaging frameworks.
• Work in collaboration with communications strategists, content teams, policy experts, program leaders, public affairs professionals, event staff, and other stakeholders.
• Conduct executive interviews and engage subject-matter experts to uncover themes, stories, examples, data points, and policy messages.
• Anticipate audience interests, sensitivities, policy considerations, and potential concerns.
• Develop briefing and preparation materials for audience questions, stakeholder interactions, panels, media engagements, and unscripted appearances.
• Ensure all materials are accurate, up-to-date, appropriate for the audience, and consistent with organizational priorities, departmental guidance, approved messaging, and review requirements.
• Maintain organized repositories of approved speeches, remarks, talking points, executive biographies, messaging guidance, and leadership communications.
• Oversee document development, editorial workflows, version control, coordination, and rapid revisions.
• Manage multiple simultaneous executive writing assignments with tight timelines and various levels of review and clearance.
• Active Secret security clearance or a higher level is mandatory.
• A Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field is essential.
• At least five (5) years of professional experience in writing speeches, talking points, executive remarks, or other executive-level communications is required.
• Proven experience in supporting leadership communications within government, nonprofit, corporate, public affairs, or similarly complex organizational environments.
• Demonstrated ability to produce refined communications for senior executives or other public-facing leaders.
• Proven capacity to write clearly, concisely, persuasively, and in an executive voice.
• Experience in writing in another person's voice and differentiating among the styles and communication preferences of various senior leaders.
• Proven ability to customize speeches and executive communications for significantly different audiences, venues, purposes, and delivery formats.
• Exceptional research and synthesis skills are required.
• Proficiency in document development, editorial workflows, collaborative review processes, and version control is essential.
• Strong understanding of communications best practices, message discipline, audience segmentation, narrative development, and executive communications.
• Ability to quickly research unfamiliar subjects and produce accurate, credible executive-level communications.
• Capability to manage sensitive, high-visibility assignments and deliver polished products under tight and sometimes unpredictable deadlines.
• Ability to work directly with senior leaders and their teams, swiftly incorporate executive-level feedback, and demonstrate exceptional judgment, discretion, responsiveness, and attention to detail.
• Outstanding writing, editing, research, and storytelling skills.
• Ability to convert complex information into concise, compelling, and memorable spoken communications.
• Capability to adjust tone, voice, narrative style, length, and format for diverse executives, audiences, events, and delivery mediums.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to factual and policy accuracy.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to multitask and handle rapid-turn assignments simultaneously.
• Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills across executive leadership, communications, policy, program, public affairs, and event teams.
• Sound professional judgment and the ability to manage sensitive information and high-visibility communications requirements with discretion.
