This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Enhance the visibility, credibility, reputation, and influence of Vitamin Angels through strategic communications both externally and internally.

• Oversee corporate communications, public and media relations, executive communications, and the editorial strategy for external communications.

• Build, strengthen, and safeguard Vitamin Angels’ reputation among donors, technical stakeholders, and broader audiences.

• Create and implement integrated external communications strategies that align with organizational priorities, brand positioning, and fundraising objectives.

• Formulate proactive media strategies and narratives that showcase expertise, evidence, impact, innovation, and leadership in global health.

• Cultivate and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, editors, thought leaders, influencers, celebrities, ambassadors, conveners, and relevant platforms.

• Provide counsel to the VP of Marketing & Communications, CEO, senior leadership team, and organizational leaders regarding messaging, positioning, and reputational opportunities and challenges.

• Identify and train spokespeople while creating thought leadership opportunities through media, speaking engagements, opinion pieces, panels, conferences, podcasts, and other platforms.

• Direct executive communications, including speeches, talking points, presentations, op-eds, interviews, and leadership messaging.

• Guide the organizational strategy for events, convenings, and conferences.

• Monitor emerging issues, media narratives, and reputational risks.

• Develop crisis and issues communications strategies and establish rapid-response protocols.

• Lead the internal communications strategy to ensure employees are informed, connected, aligned, and engaged.

• Create and manage internal editorial calendars, communications channels, content strategies, leadership cascades, and employee communication platforms.

• Convert organizational strategies, decisions, milestones, and progress into clear communications for employees.

• Establish internal communications standards and governance.

• Collaborate with leadership and People & Culture on change communications.

• Provide leaders and managers with messaging, tools, talking points, and communication resources.

• Implement employee feedback mechanisms and utilize insights to enhance communications and organizational alignment.

• Lead, mentor, and develop communications staff as well as external agency or freelance partners.

• Manage agencies, consultants, vendors, budgets, and communications resources.

• Set effectiveness measures and leverage data and insights to optimize communications reach, engagement, reputation, and influence.

• Report to the VP of Marketing & Communications and supervise the Communications Manager, Technical Partner & Local Engagement, along with third-party consultants/agency relationships.

• Travel internationally and domestically as necessary.


⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in corporate communications, public relations, nonprofit communications, global health, international development, or a related field.

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or a related discipline.

• Experience in nonprofit, global health, international development, public health, or mission-driven work is essential.

• Proven track record in developing and executing integrated communications strategies for complex organizations and diverse audiences.

• Strong experience in media relations, executive communications, thought leadership, reputation management, and crisis communications.

• Ability to communicate complex technical, scientific, health, or development topics clearly, compellingly, and accessibly.

• Demonstrated experience in leading internal communications and organizational change communications.

• Outstanding writing, editing, storytelling, and verbal communication skills.

• Experience working with senior executives and subject matter experts, translating their expertise into engaging external and internal communications.

• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.

• Experience managing teams, agencies, consultants, and budgets.

• Strong strategic judgment, political acumen, collaboration skills, and the ability to operate with discretion and sound judgment.

• Capability to manage stress, including that arising from local and international travel, large crowds, open spaces, shared office environments, and daily activities with reasonable accommodations.

• Ability to remain seated and/or stationary for extended periods, including during prolonged air travel and desk-based assignments.
