Senior Software QA Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Develop and implement thorough test plans and automated testing suites for new features and enhancements in the database.

• Create, execute, and assess regression tests aimed at the system-level functionality of the database.

• Ensure the stability, scalability, and performance of functionalities.

• Collaborate with the development team to integrate tests into the nightly CI/QA framework.

• Enhance existing test coverage and analytical tools.

• Take ownership of the complete evaluation of platform components.

• Work with cross-functional teams to identify behavioral and functional problems, correctness gaps, and opportunities for performance optimization.

• Establish test strategies, frameworks, and best practices for complex optimization and execution scenarios.

• Coordinate with engineering leadership and internal stakeholders regarding feature design objectives and test completeness.

• Ensure prompt resolution of issues.

• Lead the advancement of database testing infrastructure to enhance scalability, reliability, and reproducibility.

• Serve as a subject matter expert for the components you oversee.

• Collaborate with customer operations and development teams on escalated issues and their validation.

• Provide mentorship to junior engineers.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

• 4–6 years of experience in database development, administration, or QA engineering, with a focus on testing and validating query processing and database system components.

• In-depth knowledge of relational and distributed database systems.

• Strong proficiency in SQL query design, execution, and analysis.

• Proven track record in test planning, designing, and executing automated and reliable test frameworks and workloads for databases.

• Robust QA and debugging skills, including the ability to trace issues throughout query planning, execution, and interactions among components within the database engine.

• Solid expertise in Linux, including monitoring resource usage and log analysis.

• Proficient in Python for test automation, diagnostics, and feature validation.

• Practical experience with JIRA, test case management tools, and version control systems.

• Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS or GCP, including deployment and monitoring.

• Experience utilizing AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Windsurf to create and maintain tests, coupled with the ability to review generated tests for vacuous assertions and hidden flakiness.

• Capability to analyze complex test results, interpret query execution behavior, and gain insights through visualization and test data analysis.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
