Remote Senior Software Engineer, Typescript, AI Clients – Duo CLI at GitLab

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Poland.

📋 Description

• Create, develop, and enhance features for the GitLab Duo CLI, covering everything from problem identification to implementation, deployment, and iterative improvements.

• Construct engaging terminal experiences using TypeScript, focusing on command and flag creation, output formatting, scripting-friendly functionality, and maintaining backward compatibility.

• Promote reliability, observability, and performance enhancements for the CLI while minimizing technical debt.

• Collaborate with Product, Design, and engineering teams across Developer Clients and the broader AI Clients stage.

• Advocate for product quality, security, and developer experience through code reviews and mentorship initiatives.

• Participate in IDE extension projects, including the JetBrains plugin developed in Kotlin and the VS Code extension created in TypeScript.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong expertise in TypeScript, along with a keen interest in developer tooling and command-line interface design.

• Proven experience in building or maintaining command-line tools or other developer-facing tooling, which includes command and flag design, terminal user interfaces, output formatting, scripting-friendly behavior, and backward compatibility.

• Experience in managing technical challenges from start to finish, making informed architectural decisions, and guiding fellow engineers through code reviews and mentorship.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to thrive in a fully remote, predominantly asynchronous work environment.

• Alignment with GitLab's values and a commitment to fostering an inclusive culture.

• Experience in developing IDE extensions, such as JetBrains plugins in Kotlin or VS Code extensions, and familiarity with the Language Server Protocol (LSP), language servers, or editor integrations is advantageous but not mandatory.
