Senior Software Engineer, Tech Foundations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Define and execute the strategy for mesh capabilities, which encompasses routing, security, policy, resilience, and multi-region failover.

• Establish and monitor SLOs/SLAs for availability and performance, driving improvements based on data insights.

• Build and mentor a robust engineering team while fostering engineering excellence, code quality, and operational discipline.

• Collaborate with Security, Edge/Traffic, Compute, and Developer Platform teams on initiatives and standards that intersect various domains.

• Enhance incident management, facilitate post-incident reviews, manage changes effectively, and ensure safe rollout practices.

• Strategically plan capacity and investments to accommodate growth while maximizing efficiency and minimizing costs.

• Design, develop, and manage essential service-mesh infrastructure for service discovery, load balancing, access control, traffic failover, and routing.

• Contribute to initiatives involving global traffic load balancing, disaster recovery, next-generation service mesh, cross-region gateways, and edge security.

• Engage with the open-source community and peer organizations on cloud-native engineering challenges at scale.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in software development within a fast-paced, high-growth technology environment.

• Proficiency in managing large-scale networking systems and software, including edge proxies, DNS, CDN, or network gateways.

• Familiarity with Istio and Envoy is advantageous.

• Demonstrated ownership and experience in building and operating high-scale, distributed systems throughout the entire software lifecycle.

• Exceptional communication abilities and a collaborative spirit to work effectively within teams and across engineering departments.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

• Experience in leading a team responsible for on-call production infrastructure.

• A passion for efficiency, availability, technical excellence, and system quality.

• Must reside in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity.
