This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers; establish technical direction, perform code reviews, and facilitate career growth.
• Act as a hands-on contributor while managing sprint planning, technical roadmaps, and engineering best practices.
• Collaborate with product, architecture, and security stakeholders to ensure engineering efforts align with business goals.
• Spearhead large-scale application and infrastructure modernization projects, transitioning legacy systems to cloud-native, scalable architectures.
• Define and implement multi-year technology transformation roadmaps that encompass re-platforming, re-architecture, and cloud migration.
• Assess legacy systems and propose modernization strategies that balance risk, cost, and business continuity.
• Oversee reliability engineering practices including SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, incident response, on-call rotations, and after-action reviews.
• Design for high availability, scalability, and disaster recovery across distributed, multi-cloud environments.
• Develop observability and monitoring capabilities to proactively identify and address system risks.
• Architect and deploy solutions across AWS and Azure, including multi-cloud and hybrid-cloud configurations.
• Create and manage infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD pipelines utilizing Terraform, Ansible, and GitHub Actions.
• Advocate for AI-assisted engineering tools and methodologies to enhance developer productivity and operational efficiency.
• Automate manual operational tasks to minimize toil and enhance system reliability.
• Integrate security-by-design principles into architecture and development lifecycles.
• Conduct and respond to static/dynamic application security testing using tools like Veracode.
• Ensure adherence to organizational security, governance, and risk management standards across both cloud and on-premises environments.
• 8+ years of professional experience in software/systems engineering, including experience in a technical team leadership role.
• Proven track record of successfully leading large-scale modernization and transformation initiatives.
• Strong foundation in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices and principles.
• Practical expertise in AWS and Azure, including multi-cloud and hybrid-cloud architecture and design.
• Proficient with infrastructure-as-code and automation tools, specifically Terraform and Ansible.
• Experience in developing CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions.
• Familiarity with application security testing tools such as Veracode and principles of security-driven architecture.
• Strong scripting and automation capabilities, including languages such as Python, Bash, and PowerShell.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Exceptional communication, mentorship, and stakeholder management abilities.
• Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), or equivalent are preferred.
• Experience integrating AI/ML tools into engineering workflows or platform functionalities is preferred.
• Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes is preferred.
• Experience with observability platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or Splunk is preferred.
• Background in regulated or enterprise environments with formal change management and compliance requirements is preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Highly organized with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple competing tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to interact professionally and collaboratively with teammates, clients, and business partners.
• Willingness and eagerness to challenge oneself to support IT service delivery in federal agencies.
• Excellent judgment and innovative problem-solving abilities.
• Capability to respond to requests from team members and clients via email, MS Teams, or other communication methods during core business hours.
