
Senior Software Engineer – SAI/SDK

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Costa Rica.
• Design and develop SAI object types and APIs for switch ASIC platforms, accommodating various operational modes and architectures.
• Create and sustain switch SDK components, which encompass low-level ASIC drivers, control plane interfaces, and hardware abstraction layers.
• Integrate SAI/SDK with SONiC and other network operating system platforms.
• Construct and maintain testing frameworks, harnesses, and CI/CD pipelines for SAI/SDK validation.
• Produce comprehensive unit and integration tests.
• Analyze and optimize SAI/SDK performance in terms of latency, throughput, and resource utilization.
• Collaborate with hardware, firmware, and systems teams to outline ASIC requirements and address integration challenges.
• Conduct code reviews, mentor junior engineers, and establish best practices for SAI/SDK development.
• Utilize AI coding assistants and emerging tools to enhance development speed and code quality.
• Collaborate with the Principal Engineer on architectural design and implementation, taking ownership of key subsystems.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• 7–10 years of experience in software engineering.
• Strong command of C/C++ with a thorough understanding of systems programming.
• Practical experience in switch ASIC/SDK development on platforms such as Broadcom, Marvell, Intel, or similar.
• Experience in Linux systems programming, including kernel interfaces and driver development.
• Robust debugging and problem-solving abilities for intricate hardware/software integration challenges.
• Exceptional communication and collaboration skills.
• Dedication to AI-first development methodologies and ongoing learning of new AI tools.
• Preferred experience with SAI (Switch Abstraction Interface) implementation.
• Preferred experience in integrating SONiC or other network operating system platforms.
• Preferred experience with network protocol implementation, including L2/L3 switching and routing.
• Preferred knowledge of high-speed interconnect protocols.
• Preferred understanding of hardware/ASIC architecture.
• Preferred experience in performance optimization and profiling using tools such as perf, gprof, valgrind, or similar.
• Preferred history of contributions to open-source projects.
• Preferred experience in technical leadership and mentoring.
• Preferred familiarity with AI-assisted development tools like GitHub Copilot or Cursor.
• Preferred knowledge of test automation frameworks and CI/CD systems.
