Senior Software Engineer – Rust

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Romania.

📋 Description

• Define the technical vision for Kraken Consumer applications.

• Take charge of the architecture and implementation of customer-facing Rust backend services for trading, payments, and cryptocurrency experiences.

• Make architectural choices for long-lasting systems.

• Transform ambiguous, multi-quarter challenges from concept to completed and evaluated results.

• Decompose complex tasks so that team members can work concurrently.

• Oversee features from start to finish, including user experience, frontend implications, and product goals.

• Collaborate with product leadership to define roadmaps and product strategy.

• Be responsible for product outcomes and performance metrics.

• Lead cross-team initiatives involving trading infrastructure, platforms, and various product teams.

• Foster relationships and technical coherence across teams.

• Guide mid-level engineers through mentorship.

• Review designs prior to implementation.

• Remove obstacles for teammates and create reusable engineering patterns and standards.

• Leverage AI to enhance engineering efficiency and scope.

• Assist in establishing effective AI-assisted engineering methodologies.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 6 years of experience in backend engineering.

• Strong proficiency in Rust, particularly in network services, asynchronous programming, and distributed systems architecture.

• Familiarity with RPC protocols, Kafka, and event-driven architectures.

• Proven experience in managing production systems and making architectural choices.

• Background in product engineering, from problem identification to launch and user impact.

• History of influencing product direction and metrics.

• Demonstrated contributions through mentoring, design reviews, technical documentation, or team standards.

• Experience in driving initiatives across teams or organizations.

• An AI-first development mindset with practical applications of AI in coding, navigating unfamiliar codebases, overcoming technical limitations, and validating implementations.

• Ownership mentality with the capability to work across backend and frontend domains.

• Full-stack experience, including React/TypeScript or other frontend frameworks, is a plus.

• Knowledge of cryptocurrency or blockchain is advantageous.

• Experience in building and scaling consumer-focused products is a plus.

• Familiarity with introducing AI tools or workflows to an engineering team is a plus.
