Senior Software Engineer – Ruby

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Poland.

📋 Description

• Design and enhance the core architecture of a high-load Data Quality platform that performs millions of checks daily.

• Optimize throughput, latency, and reliability for orchestration, scheduling, dependency resolution, retries, and mutation-driven reruns.

• Analyze and optimize PostgreSQL-heavy production workloads, achieving approximately 4,000 RPS.

• Lead the migration of statistics and analytical workloads from PostgreSQL to ClickHouse on the backend.

• Develop and advance product features related to DQ coverage, table lineage, incident lifecycle, and operational investigation.

• Contribute to platform UI features as needed to ensure comprehensive product capabilities, utilizing AI-assisted development workflows.

• Take ownership of the reliability and production performance of backend services.

• Investigate incidents, diagnose performance issues, enhance observability, and prevent future occurrences.

• Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation.

• Facilitate the scaling of DQ adoption throughout the company by ensuring the reliability and accessibility of integrations, configurations, and operational checks.

• Collaborate directly with data producers, infrastructure, and business teams.

• Proactively identify product, technical, and operational challenges, driving improvements that are production-ready.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficient in Ruby and Rails.

• Extensive experience in developing and managing high-load production systems.

• In-depth knowledge of PostgreSQL: query planning, profiling, indexing, locking, transactions, concurrency, connection behavior, and performance tuning under sustained load.

• Strong SQL skills and the ability to investigate complex data discrepancies across large, multi-source datasets.

• Experience with asynchronous systems, including background jobs, queues, retries, idempotency, and failure recovery.

• Proven ability to design complex backend systems from the ground up and evolve them safely in production.

• Hands-on experience with production ownership, including metrics, logs, tracing, incident investigation, and performance analysis.

• Strong practical use of AI-powered developer tools for navigating unfamiliar codebases, prototyping, debugging, reviewing, and delivering changes quickly while critically validating outcomes.

• A product-oriented mindset and entrepreneurial ownership: capable of identifying opportunities, formulating solutions, validating them with users or data, and driving them to completion.

• Intermediate or higher proficiency in English (B1+).

• Familiarity with ClickHouse.

• Knowledge of Delta Lake, Trino, Spark, or DuckDB.

• Experience with Debezium (or similar CDC implementations), Kafka, and data ingestion & transformation processes.

• Familiarity with Kubernetes, Helm, Prometheus/Grafana, and production service operations.

• Experience in building side projects, launching product capabilities, or improving a product independently beyond assigned tasks.
