Senior Software Engineer – Maritime Optimization

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design and implement maritime route optimization, vessel performance modeling, and voyage analysis functionalities.

• Enhance optimization algorithms and convert vessel performance and fuel consumption models into software applications.

• Create simulation and evaluation tools.

• Advance the methods used for scoring and elucidating route recommendations.

• Engage in maritime voyage optimization and route assessment.

• Model vessel performance and fuel usage under various operational and environmental scenarios.

• Tackle voyage constraints, transit durations, fuel efficiency, and operational factors.

• Contribute to the development of algorithms, models, simulation capabilities, services, APIs, testing, and associated software components using Rust and Python.

• Collaborate with engineers, product specialists, and maritime experts.

• Support both existing Sofar technologies and new software initiatives for government maritime projects.

• Generate practical, comprehensible, and justifiable optimization suggestions.

⛳️ Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is mandatory for this role.

• Candidates must be able to successfully complete a background check.

• A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in software engineering is required.

• Strong foundational knowledge in software engineering with experience in contributing to production software.

• Proficiency in Python and/or a compiled language such as Rust, C++, C, or similar is required.

• Comfortable working with algorithms, data structures, and computational challenges.

• Ability to convert domain-specific or mathematical concepts into maintainable and testable software.

• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach when working across engineering and domain areas.

• Comfortable developing software for U.S. Government and Department of Defense clients.
