
Senior Software Engineer, Linux Kernel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
β’ Monitor ongoing developments in the Linux Kernel and pinpoint relevant features for Arista products and internal projects.
β’ Design and sustain EOS Kernel features and testing procedures utilizing C, C++, and Python.
β’ Evaluate and contribute to functional and design documentation.
β’ Create automated testing and test infrastructure.
β’ Collaborate with hardware engineers and vendors to validate CPUs, NICs, and other hardware components that rely on the kernel.
β’ Contribute enhancements to the mainline Linux kernel in cooperation with the upstream community.
β’ Integrate new Kernel versions for EOS and internal projects.
β’ Provide technical guidance across various features, projects, and tools.
β’ Investigate and resolve customer network issues alongside Customer Support Engineers and clients.
β’ Assess system-test challenges and implement solutions.
β’ Mentor new and junior engineers.
β’ Oversee projects from initiation through deployment and customer interactions, ensuring high-quality delivery.
β’ Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering with 8 years of experience; or a Master's degree with 6 years; or a Ph.D. with 3 years; or equivalent professional experience.
β’ Proficient knowledge and substantial experience in programming with C.
β’ Familiarity with C++ and Python is a plus.
β’ Extensive hands-on experience in troubleshooting issues, resolving bugs, and developing features within the Linux kernel.
β’ Understanding of Linux kernel architecture, design, and implementation.
β’ Acquainted with the patching process and procedures of the upstream Linux community.
β’ Comprehension of IP networking architecture, design, and principles.
β’ Practical knowledge of modern software engineering principles and practices.
β’ Strong capabilities in software design and implementation.
β’ Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
β’ Capability to work both independently and collaboratively in small teams.
β’ Proficient in articulating ideas and documenting designs and implementations clearly and succinctly.
β’ Familiarity with x86 and ARM CPU architectures.
