Senior Software Engineer – JAAR/DCD Program

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Work collaboratively with a small Agile software team and clients to facilitate sprint planning, execution, and evaluations.

• Create software solutions by understanding requirements and engaging with end-users.

• Diagnose and address system issues, including the analysis and resolution of Software Trouble Reports.

• Develop and maintain comprehensive software development documentation, such as notebooks, sequence diagrams, and dependencies.

• Produce clean, maintainable code while adhering to strong commenting and documentation standards.

• Engage in hands-on development and troubleshooting, utilizing innovative methods to resolve technical challenges.

• Conduct developer testing in laboratory environments and aboard ships as needed to ensure compliance with requirements.

• Participate in occasional travel to assist with software installation and testing initiatives.

• Design, develop, and implement shore-based and shipboard software applications, including JAAR and DCD systems.

• Contribute to mission-critical training systems that enhance U.S. Navy training effectiveness and operational readiness.

⛳️ Requirements

• 9 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or 7 years of relevant experience with a Master's degree in a related field; or 4 years of relevant experience with a PhD or Juris Doctorate in a related field; or a High School Diploma or equivalent along with 13 years of relevant experience.

• Experience in implementing Agile and Scrum development methodologies.

• Proficient in software design and development using C#, C++, Angular framework, or related technologies.

• Extensive database experience with PostgreSQL, SQL, or similar technologies.

• U.S. citizenship is required.

• Must currently hold or be eligible to obtain a Department of War (DoW) Secret security clearance.

• Security+ certification or the ability to acquire it within 3 months of hire.

• Preferred: Degree in Computer Science or a related field.

• Preferred: Operational or developmental knowledge of military training systems.

• Preferred: CompTIA Security+ CE certification or an equivalent certification to satisfy DoD requirements for IAT Level II roles under DoD 8570 and SECNAV M-5239.2.

• Preferred experience with JIRA, Confluence, GitLab, Docker, Kubernetes, .NET build scripts, dependency management, CI/CD pipelines, Python, Alloy, Grafana, Loki, and Prometheus.
