Senior Software Engineer – Global Forwarding Technology

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Oversee the design and creation of scalable software solutions aimed at modernizing and automating Global Forwarding workflows.

• Convert business and customer challenges into technical solutions encompassing pricing, rating, carrier contracts, shipment planning, booking, visibility, documentation, and operations.

• Create and implement AI-powered and agentic solutions that streamline knowledge work and facilitate complex decision-making.

• Utilize large language models, intelligent agents, workflow orchestration, retrieval-augmented generation, and other AI technologies to enhance business processes.

• Develop AI-assisted workflows that analyze information, operate across systems, and escalate issues when human judgment is necessary.

• Establish dependable enterprise AI frameworks that include evaluation, observability, human-in-the-loop controls, grounding, security, auditability, and guardrails.

• Explore emerging AI and agentic technologies and transition successful prototypes into production capabilities.

• Define interfaces and create code across applications, APIs, services, data platforms, and shared capabilities.

• Collaborate with product, engineering, operations, and business stakeholders to discover opportunities for automation and simplification.

• Design solutions for high-volume environments that demand resilience, performance, and minimal manual intervention.

• Develop integrations across internal platforms, APIs, carrier systems, external partners, messaging, and event-driven architectures.

• Provide technical leadership across various engineering teams and business sectors.

• Enhance code quality through design evaluations, code reviews, automated testing, and adherence to engineering best practices.

• Optimize, refactor, and repurpose capabilities to boost performance, maintainability, scalability, and returns on technology investments.

• Identify and mitigate risks related to performance, reliability, availability, and security.

• Integrate security, privacy, and data governance considerations into software and AI solutions.

• Create technical documentation, architectural guidelines, and reusable engineering patterns.

• Estimate project initiatives, including dependencies, scope, effort, resources, technical risks, and skill requirements.

• Mentor and guide software engineers through architectural discussions, reviews, pairing, knowledge sharing, and technical leadership.

• Work alongside engineering and product leadership to help teams overcome obstacles and address complex technical issues.

• Minimize redundancy and enhance shared platform capabilities across organizational boundaries.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of experience in developing and implementing commercial software solutions.

• Extensive experience in designing and building applications in an object-oriented environment, particularly in C# and .NET.

• Proven experience in designing distributed systems, APIs, services, and integrations across multiple applications or domains.

• Proficient in relational database design and development, including schema design, stored procedures, performance tuning, and optimization.

• Familiarity with non-relational databases and contemporary data storage patterns.

• Knowledgeable in HTTP, REST APIs, event-driven architectures, and asynchronous processing.

• Experience with unit, integration, acceptance, and automated testing methodologies.

• Proficient in version control systems such as Git, GitHub, and TFS.

• Familiarity with CI/CD and modern software delivery practices.

• Ability to solve intricate technical issues that span multiple systems, teams, or business domains.

• Capability to comprehend complex business processes and translate them into scalable, maintainable technical solutions.

• Ability to provide technical leadership and influence architectural decisions without relying solely on formal authority.

• Excellent communication skills for articulating complex technical concepts to engineering, product, business, and operational stakeholders.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Management Information Systems, or a related technology field, or a minimum of 6 years of equivalent work experience along with a high school diploma/GED.

• This role is available only in MN, IL, or Kansas City.
