Senior Software Engineer, Fullstack

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ireland, +2 more countries.

📋 Description

• Take ownership and deliver customer-oriented search functionalities and workflows across both frontend and backend systems, from the technical planning stage to production.

• Develop AI-driven product experiences from start to finish, including the services that power them and the interfaces that render their output reliable and useful.

• Create intuitive, responsive user experiences utilizing Vue while also contributing to Python and Django services.

• Design and enhance search, indexing, and retrieval systems that facilitate content discovery across extensive data sets.

• Construct and uphold features and data workflows using Elasticsearch, Kafka, Celery, and MySQL.

• Make informed technical decisions and trade-offs that balance customer satisfaction, delivery speed, performance, reliability, and maintainability.

• Collaborate with Product, Design, and engineering teams to develop solutions, clarify requirements, and enhance customer experiences.

• Diagnose complex production issues and enhance system performance, reliability, observability, and maintainability.

• Participate in on-call and incident response rotations to identify and resolve production problems.

• Attend the annual company offsite, typically held in Mexico.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of professional software engineering experience in building and maintaining production-level software.

• Strong capability in working across both frontend and backend systems with a proven record of independently delivering features throughout the application stack.

• Proficient in Python or a similar programming language, along with experience in Django or a comparable web framework.

• Experience in developing polished, maintainable user-facing applications using Vue.js or another modern JavaScript framework.

• Familiarity with Elasticsearch or a similar search technology, or significant experience with data-intensive systems.

• Experience in making technical trade-offs in complex production environments while balancing immediate delivery requirements with long-term quality.

• Proven ability to diagnose production issues and enhance the reliability and operational health of the systems you build.

• Proficiency in TypeScript within a large codebase.

• Experience with design systems or shared component libraries.

• Flexibility to adjust working hours for overlap with teammates in U.S. time zones.

• Willingness to travel up to 10% for team collaboration, customer interactions, and company events.

• Familiarity with Kafka or other streaming/event-driven technologies.

• Experience with MySQL, Postgres, or other relational databases.

• Knowledge of Celery or other asynchronous task-processing systems.

• Experience in building features related to search, discovery, indexing, or information retrieval.

• Background in enhancing frontend architecture, performance, or managing complex customer-facing workflows.

• Experience with high-traffic SaaS applications or systems processing large data volumes.

• Skills in developing customer-facing features supported by LLMs or other AI models.

• Ability to assess whether an AI-powered feature is functioning effectively through evaluation, testing, or user feedback.

• An interest in journalism, news, media, or social media.

• Capacity to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and collaborate efficiently with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Ability to take ownership of challenges and drive work forward independently while recognizing when to seek assistance.

• Skill in creating readable, testable, maintainable software while making practical technical compromises.

• Ability to thoughtfully approach ambiguous or complex challenges and apply sound judgment.

• Contribution to engineering culture through code reviews, knowledge sharing, feedback, and continuous improvement.
