Senior Software Engineer, Experimentation Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Co-manage client libraries and services utilized by thousands of Airbnb engineers to implement features and conduct experiments, primarily on the JVM.

• Integrate feature flag and product configuration systems into a unified platform.

• Facilitate the straightforward and secure setup of flags, configurations, and experiments within code.

• Develop and enhance experimentation, feature flagging, and product configuration clients along with supporting services.

• Design and oversee cross-team migrations, including the evolution of client APIs, deprecation of outdated APIs, and the safe transition of consuming services.

• Enhance the testability, performance, and reliability of widely used, interconnected client libraries.

• Create allocation and targeting capabilities, such as holdouts and mutually exclusive experiments, in collaboration with data science.

• Leverage AI-assisted development for migrations, tests, and refactors, while contributing to the establishment of team practices.

• Engage in design, implementation, testing, and on-call responsibilities.

• Work across the technology stack, including Python services as needed.

• Collaborate with data science partners, infrastructure engineers, and product engineers.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in a hands-on software engineering role, delivering high-quality code to production.

• Strong proficiency in a JVM language (Java or Kotlin).

• Experience in developing libraries or services relied upon by other developers.

• In-depth knowledge of object-oriented programming and API design, including backward compatibility and versioning.

• Proven experience in driving cross-team changes, migrations, or deprecations affecting numerous consumers.

• Effective communication skills and a demonstrated ability to lead projects across teams.

• Practical expertise with AI-assisted development, including coding agents and LLM tools, along with the capability to validate their outputs.

• Comfortable working in Python and other layers of the technology stack, or eager to learn.

• Experience with feature flagging or product configuration systems, experimentation platforms, or web and mobile clients [Bonus].

• Familiarity with latency-sensitive, high-throughput client SDKs [Bonus].
