Senior Software Engineer, Data Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Develop and sustain data infrastructure that processes petabytes of information for millions of users.

• Produce clean, well-tested code for data ingestion, transformation, and serving systems.

• Take ownership of projects from inception to deployment and ongoing support.

• Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and product teams to create solutions that enhance Discord's insights.

• Utilize 80/20 thinking to assess requirements, minimize unnecessary complexity, and provide timely optimal solutions.

• Guide teammates through code reviews, requests for comments (RFCs), and shared technical expertise.

• Construct the next generation of the Data Platform that drives decision-making for Discord's gaming platform.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering.

• Proficient programming skills in Python, Java, Rust, Go, or similar languages.

• Practical experience in building or managing large-scale data infrastructure, including pipelines, streaming systems, orchestration, or data warehousing.

• Familiarity with tools such as BigQuery, Kafka, Spark, Flink, Airflow, Dagster, or similar technologies.

• Demonstrated success in delivering complex, multi-phase projects independently.

• Experience in managing edge cases, failure modes, and scaling challenges.

• Excellent collaboration and communication skills, particularly with cross-functional teams.

• Capability to produce clear technical documentation, drive consensus, and support technical decision-making.

• A growth-oriented mindset.

• Candidates must currently reside in or be willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area or work remotely within the U.S.
