Senior Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Report to the Head of Engineering.

• Design, build, and take ownership of essential backend services, APIs, data pipelines, asynchronous workers, and supporting infrastructure.

• Make architectural choices and document the associated trade-offs.

• Drive investments in platform reliability alongside feature development.

• Establish standards for code quality, test coverage, and operational excellence.

• Diagnose and resolve performance, reliability, and scalability challenges; conduct post-mortem analyses.

• Design and maintain robust distributed systems utilizing circuit breakers, retries, idempotency, and rate limiting.

• Oversee services from design through deployment, including CI/CD, Docker/Kubernetes, and cloud infrastructure.

• Implement observability through structured logging, metrics, distributed tracing, and alerting.

• Contribute to infrastructure-as-code initiatives and optimize cloud costs.

• Design data models for both relational and non-relational databases.

• Build data pipelines, ETL/ELT workflows, and integrate third-party services.

• Apply CDN, in-memory, and application-level caching techniques.

• Construct decoupled asynchronous architectures utilizing Kafka, SQS, or RabbitMQ.

• Apply secure coding practices and assist with SOC 2/GDPR compliance efforts.

• Assist teammates and provide technical guidance.

• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, pairing, and constructive feedback.

• Document architecture decisions and create technical documentation.

• Collaborate with Product and Design teams to scope and deliver projects.

• Represent the Engineering team in cross-functional discussions.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with a strong focus on backend systems.

• Proficient in at least one backend programming language: Python, Go, Java, Rust, or a similar language.

• Comfortable working with AWS, GCP, or Azure cloud platforms.

• Hands-on experience with relational databases, including schema design, query optimization, and indexing.

• Familiarity with non-relational databases or caching solutions.

• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.

• Capability to own and deliver complex, ambiguous projects from start to finish with minimal supervision.

• Proven track record of mentoring engineers and influencing technical directions without having formal authority.

• Excellent communication skills, both clear and direct.

• Experience in a startup environment is a plus.

• Familiarity with Node.js/TypeScript, AWS Lambda/CDK/Step Functions, PostgreSQL, or Cloudflare is a plus.

• Knowledge of OAuth and observability tools is advantageous.

• Experience with Temporal, Airflow, Prefect, and large-scale async job processing is beneficial.

• Working knowledge of Terraform, Pulumi, and cloud cost management is a plus.
