Senior Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Architect, design, and develop comprehensive features for students, teachers, and school administrators, encompassing the React/TypeScript frontend, PostgreSQL backend, APIs, infrastructure layer, and data pipeline.

• Create data models and schemas that are accurate, efficient, and maintainable at scale.

• Construct and uphold highly available web and backend systems that serve millions of users and handle thousands of requests per second.

• Thoughtfully integrate AI tools to enhance individual productivity and optimize the team’s software development, deployment, and maintenance processes.

• Maintain and advance backend services like curricula-api and progress services that drive student practice and reporting.

• Mentor and assist fellow engineers, conduct code reviews, and advocate for robust engineering practices.

• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers in a distributed remote work setting.

• Engage in the on-call rotation to ensure swift resolution of customer-facing incidents.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of professional software development experience delivering high-quality web-based software that addresses significant challenges for a large user base.

• Strong full-stack expertise: hands-on experience with React (or a similar SPA framework) and TypeScript on the frontend, along with building backend services and APIs.

• Proficient data modeling skills and experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred).

• Experience in conducting code reviews and mentoring fellow engineers.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to succeed within an agile, multidisciplinary team.

• Familiarity with event-based / event-driven architecture (bonus).

• Experience with AWS (ECS/Fargate, RDS, S3/CloudFront, ElastiCache, Lambda) and Docker (bonus).

• Knowledge of CI/CD (GitHub Actions) and observability/telemetry tools (Datadog, Bugsnag, or similar) (bonus).

• A strong passion for education and improving outcomes for students and teachers (bonus).
