This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.
• Establish quality standards through personal contributions and code evaluations.
• Design, develop, and take ownership of features from start to finish using C#/.NET and SQL Server, extending into React and Node (TypeScript) with Postgres for newer products.
• Decompose large or unclear technical challenges into actionable work items.
• Collaborate with the Product Owner to prioritize tasks in alignment with roadmap commitments and state compliance deadlines.
• Acquire in-depth knowledge of the technical landscape and integrations that facilitate the movement of educator, district, and evaluation data across state systems.
• Serve as a technical resource within the team and assist in removing obstacles for teammates.
• Work closely with Product, Customer Success, and go-to-market teams to comprehend customer issues and shape product direction.
• Enhance systems to boost availability, performance, and the daily experiences of education agencies.
• Provide technical insights, feedback, estimates, and planning contributions.
• Engage as a member of a self-managing Scrum team.
• Share responsibilities for delivery, including production support.
• Report directly to the Software Engineering Manager.
• At least 5 years of professional experience in software engineering.
• Proven history of owning a complex codebase, or effectively navigating between multiple codebases, or a strong combination of both.
• Solid foundation in computer science principles: algorithms, data structures, and coding proficiency, with demonstrated expertise in a modern web stack.
• Extensive hands-on experience with C# and .NET, including ASP.NET web applications and backend service development.
• Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and a contemporary front-end framework.
• Strong skills in relational databases, including schema design and data modeling using SQL Server, Postgres, or similar systems.
• Familiarity with a major public cloud provider; experience with Azure is relevant, while AWS or Google Cloud experience is also applicable.
• Experience delivering at speed within an Agile team setting, encompassing source control, CI/CD, automated testing, and production support.
• Capability to break down technical challenges into distinct steps as part of a credible solution strategy.
• Ability to guide team members toward solutions by asking questions rather than providing direct answers.
• Collaborative mindset with shared ownership of work, knowledge dissemination, and support for others in achieving technical excellence.
• Experience working with both greenfield and legacy codebases (preferred).
• Proven track record of mentoring engineers and elevating the technical standards within a team (preferred).
• Experience utilizing AI/GenAI tools to enhance development and support efficiency (preferred).
• Above-average written and verbal communication skills (preferred).
• A strong curiosity about customer issues and the business context behind them (preferred).
