Senior Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Latin America.

📋 Description

• Take responsibility for production reliability during North American business hours and act as the primary responder for issues.

• Implement features comprehensively across the internal operations platform and client-facing portal.

• Manage integration health with QuickBooks Online, Microsoft Graph, Bill.com, property management platforms, and CRM systems.

• Oversee the security framework and establish clear security acceptance criteria.

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain scalable web applications and backend services.

• Create AI-enabled features and incorporate LLM APIs for document extraction, classification, review workflows, and agent-driven automation.

• Utilize AI development tools such as Claude Code as an integral part of the daily engineering process.

• Develop and sustain REST APIs, serverless functions, background workers, scheduled jobs, and webhook ingestion pipelines.

• Manage database schema design, migrations with tested rollback paths, and optimize query performance.

• Diagnose and resolve production incidents across applications, databases, and third-party integrations.

• Implement structured logging, alerting, and monitoring for authentication failures, integration issues, queues, and background jobs.

• Draft and maintain operational runbooks.

• Enhance and modify existing codebases without unnecessary rewrites.

• Write maintainable, well-documented code and engage in code reviews.

• Translate technical risks and trade-offs into business language for leadership and operational staff.

• Collaborate with an engineer located in the Philippines and an external development partner.

• Take ownership of the afternoon issue queue, triage the bug backlog, and document recurring failures within the first 30 days.

• Implement alerting, validate backup restoration, and establish post-deployment verification during the period of days 31–60.

• Manage a significant workstream and deliver a meaningful feature from start to finish during days 61–90.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

• Senior-level full-stack experience with a proven track record of delivering and maintaining production software.

• Strong command of JavaScript/TypeScript and React.

• Experience in developing Node.js and serverless backends.

• Solid experience with SQL/PostgreSQL, including data modeling, indexing, query performance, and migrations.

• Proficiency with REST APIs, webhooks, and third-party integrations.

• Experience in managing provider API changes and failure conditions.

• Familiarity with Git, testing, CI/CD, and collaborative development processes.

• Genuine AI-first development experience utilizing Claude Code or similar AI coding agents in shipped projects.

• Capacity to effectively prompt, intervene, and critically evaluate AI-generated code, particularly for code handling financial or sensitive data.

• Experience with production ownership, including diagnosing incidents, rolling back or deploying fixes, and addressing gaps afterward.

• Ability to inherit and extend another developer's codebase.

• Experience in setting up alerting and logging systems.

• Background in building or maintaining software that manages sensitive financial or regulated data.

• Working knowledge of multi-tenant data isolation, PostgreSQL row-level security, scoped request context, and server-side authorization.

• Experience with OAuth 2.0 integration, including token refresh, expiry and revocation handling, and encrypted credential storage.

• Secure document handling experience, including access-controlled storage and access auditing.

• Understanding of secure SDLC principles, input validation, IDOR prevention, secrets management, and vulnerability triage.

• Docker production experience, including multi-stage builds, deployments, and rollback strategies.

• Hands-on experience with Azure, GCP, or AWS.

• Experience in restoring a PostgreSQL database from backup.

• Ability to modify reverse proxy configurations and manage TLS certificate renewals.

• Consistent availability from 11:00 AM–7:00 PM ET, Monday through Friday.

• Familiarity with React, Vite, Tailwind CSS, Vercel Serverless Functions, and Supabase/PostgreSQL is highly desirable.

• Preferred experience in accounting, bookkeeping, fintech, or property management software.

• Preferred familiarity with QuickBooks Online or similar accounting/ERP platforms.

• Preferred experience with Anthropic Claude API or OpenAI API.

• Deep familiarity with Claude Code is preferred.

• Proficiency in Python for automation, data synchronization, and background processing is preferred.

• Experience with scheduled jobs, cron workflows, GitHub Actions, or other background processing systems is preferred.

• Exposure to threat modeling, access logging, or data retention policy work is preferred.

• Experience in a SOC 2 or similar compliance-focused environment is preferred.

• Experience working in distributed remote teams across different time zones is preferred.
