Senior Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop and enhance Fleet360, RTA's fleet management SaaS platform.

• Take full ownership of features from conception to production, encompassing front-end interfaces, APIs, business logic, databases, integrations, and infrastructure.

• Create responsive, dependable, and maintainable user experiences.

• Design and construct scalable back-end systems and APIs using Node.js and TypeScript.

• Utilize AI-assisted development and coding agents in daily workflows.

• Experiment with AI-driven workflows to enhance engineering productivity practices.

• Develop AI-enhanced product features leveraging LLMs, retrieval, agents, and intelligent automation.

• Conduct thorough code reviews, mentor engineers, share techniques and patterns, and establish engineering standards.

• Identify and address performance and scalability issues across browsers, networks, applications, databases, and infrastructure.

• Investigate production issues throughout the entire system and drive them to resolution.

• Integrate third-party APIs and internal services with a focus on reliability, failure handling, observability, and maintainability.

• Advocate for secure development practices and system reliability.

• Collaborate with Product, QA, Support, and engineering teams to transform customer and business challenges into software solutions.

• Deliver at least two complete end-to-end features, lead a production incident to resolution and postmortem, enhance the team's AI workflow, and document an architectural opinion within the first 90 days.

• Take charge of a significant Fleet360 domain, deliver an AI-enabled customer capability, enhance a tracked engineering metric, and influence fellow engineers within the first year.

• Engage in hiring-manager and team evaluation discussions.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5–7+ years of professional software engineering experience with true ownership of production software.

• Genuine full-stack expertise across browser, API, database, infrastructure, and third-party integrations.

• Experience with production-scale Node.js and TypeScript.

• Ability to design robust APIs and services capable of withstanding real load.

• Strong relational database skills, including schema design, SQL writing and optimization, performance diagnosis, data integrity, and concurrency management.

• Daily AI-assisted development experience with sound engineering judgment.

• Capability to decompose problems, provide useful constraints to coding agents, assess results, iterate, and guide implementations to production quality.

• Experience with Vue.js is advantageous; strong React or Angular experience is also relevant.

• Familiarity with browser-side application architecture, component design, state management, asynchronous behavior, performance, and maintainable user experience is beneficial.

• Systems design experience that extends beyond features, including services, event-driven patterns, distributed systems, and data flows is an asset.

• Experience with messaging and queuing systems such as RabbitMQ, Kafka, or AWS SQS is a plus.

• Knowledge of caching and distributed application patterns, particularly with Redis, is a benefit.

• Proficiency with Docker, AWS ECS/EKS, and Kubernetes enhances the application.

• Experience with observability tools including logs, metrics, traces, profiling, and APM is valuable.

• Understanding of DevOps principles such as CI/CD and automated testing strengthens the application.

• Familiarity with AI product capabilities involving LLM APIs, tool/function calling, RAG, embeddings, vector search, structured outputs, or agents is a plus.

• A Bachelor’s degree is not mandatory.

• Experience leading multi-file refactors, migrations, and test coverage with coding agents is beneficial.

• Ability to maintain context files, rules, and prompts for team coding tools.

• Proficiency in reviewing, understanding, challenging, testing, improving, and delivering AI-generated work.

• Ability to assess whether AI features add value.

• Ability to determine when not to employ a model.

• Ability to articulate architectural tradeoffs and debugging sessions clearly.

• Must be capable of sitting or standing for extended periods and working at a computer for prolonged durations.

• Must be authorized to work in the United States; RTA is unable to accept student visas or provide sponsorship.
