Senior Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Louisiana.

📋 Description

• Offer technical expertise for the CNMOC Data Dissemination SBIR Information Technology Solutions Project.

• Develop, update, improve, operate, and sustain services for CNMOC's mission-critical systems.

• Engage in all facets of the software development lifecycle, encompassing scope and work estimation, architecture and design, coding, and unit testing.

• Design, code, test, troubleshoot, and maintain software products.

• Convert customer requirements into user stories and deliver functional capabilities at the end of each sprint.

• Mentor software developers within the product team.

• Participate in or lead sprint demonstrations.

• Facilitate the execution of ideas identified during retrospectives.

• Collaborate with product teams to create solutions for issues that hinder progress.

• Communicate technical challenges, considered alternatives, and suggested solutions to team leaders.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering/Data Science, or a related field.

• Over 6 years of pertinent experience.

• Active Secret security clearance.

• CompTIA Security+ certification or ability to obtain it during the onboarding period.

• Strong proficiency in Python, particularly with Polars, Pandas, and Pydantic.

• Proficient in JSON/XML formats and their supporting libraries.

• Experience in designing and managing ETL/ELT pipelines for both structured and unstructured datasets within operational environments.

• Mastery of data engineering principles such as velocity, volume, variety, and veracity.

• Familiarity with Git/Subversion, test-driven development, and Agile lifecycle tools including Jira, Jenkins, JUnit, and GitLab.

• Strong comprehension of data modeling, data integration, and database design.

• Practical experience with PostgreSQL/PostGIS, SQL Server, or Oracle.

• Hands-on exposure to AWS and container technologies.

• Understanding of DevSecOps frameworks.

• Experience in integrating geospatial systems and enterprise data platforms/APIs, such as the ESRI stack and ERDDAP.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to self-initiate and work independently with minimal oversight.

• Desired: experience with large-scale ingestion, transformation, analytics workflows, data orchestration, and automation.

• Desired: knowledge in data governance, metadata/lineage, cataloging, and compliance reporting.

• Desired: familiarity with Kafka or Kinesis, time-series data stores, and meteorology/oceanography data.

• Desired: experience applying AI to data processing and analytics workflows.

• Desired: proficiency in ESRI tools and ecosystem.

• Desired: knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and DISA STIG checklists.

• Desired: experience with OpenShift, Kubernetes, Podman, Terraform, CloudFormation, and AWS cost/performance optimization.

• Desired: familiarity with IRODS, Spring MVC, Java/Java Servlet, C++, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and TypeScript.

• Desired: experience with Selenium/Citrus for automated validation.

• Desired: experience in direct customer support and structured escalation processes.
