Senior Software Engineer, ASW Launch Ops

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Develop the operational framework encompassing site acquisition, infrastructure design, permitting, construction execution, deployment tracking, and launch readiness.

• Establish technical foundations to scale Zipline from a few sites to hundreds or thousands.

• Replace disjointed manual workflows with a cohesive, auditable, and automated operational system.

• Oversee key product domains, ensuring their long-term technical integrity and strategic direction.

• Minimize manual coordination, shorten site-launch timelines, enhance launch-date predictability, and provide insights into execution, dependencies, and risks.

• Define APIs, data models, service boundaries, and architectural patterns.

• Create resilient workflows that facilitate interactions with government and vendors, manage physical assets, documents, permits, approvals, dependencies, state transitions, and exception handling.

• Develop integrations across ERP, GIS, document management, permitting, construction and project management, asset management, and internal operational systems.

• Collaborate with users to build intuitive planning and execution tools, prototype workflows, validate them in actual operating environments, and encourage adoption.

• Construct and manage business-critical services equipped with health metrics, SLOs, observability, runbooks, and recovery mechanisms.

• Participate in on-call duties, lead incident responses, and enhance systems through postmortems.

• Deploy production code, review significant changes, troubleshoot complex system behaviors, and oversee capabilities from discovery to operation.

• Foster alignment among technical and operational stakeholders.

• Mentor colleagues and enhance practices in system design, automated testing, CI/CD, operational reliability, and pragmatic delivery.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in developing and maintaining full-stack production systems at scale, or proven equivalent technical expertise.

• Ability to comprehend user needs, identify root causes, and design practical solutions that balance business value, usability, technical simplicity, and maintainability.

• Capability to deconstruct ambiguous operational issues and deliver software that enhances real-world processes.

• Strong foundational knowledge in maintainable system design, data modeling, robust APIs, frontend applications, backend services, distributed systems, and infrastructure.

• Experience in modeling long-running workflows, external dependencies, physical assets, and complex state transitions with auditability, observability, and failure recovery.

• Proven experience in building reliable integrations between internal services and external or enterprise systems.

• Comfortable working with and learning across Python, Go, PostgreSQL, React, Kafka, gRPC, AWS, Grafana, and Honeycomb.

• Thoughtful application of AI throughout the stages of design, implementation, testing, debugging, and code review.

• Ability to define service-health metrics and reliability objectives, create runbooks, participate in on-call rotations, and drive enhancements through incident reviews.

• Experience in delivering high-impact capabilities with measurable outcomes.

• Effective communication, decisive prioritization, and the ability to influence cross-functionally without formal authority.

• Capacity to balance speed with accuracy and comprehend operational ramifications in safety-critical operations.
