Senior Software Development Engineer in Test

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany, +5 more countries.

📋 Description

• Design and develop scalable testing systems, platforms, and infrastructure that mimic real-world production environments.

• Create software and tools to evaluate application performance, reliability, scalability, and infrastructure behavior during high traffic scenarios.

• Establish and maintain load, performance, stress, and synthetic testing capabilities for applications catering to millions of users worldwide.

• Develop testing environments and processes that ensure new code and infrastructure will scale effectively in production.

• Write high-quality code using TypeScript, Python, or equivalent languages to construct testing tools, automation, and supportive systems.

• Design tests to uncover performance bottlenecks associated with latency, bandwidth, application speed, infrastructure capacity, and resource usage.

• Integrate automated testing and quality assurance validation into CI/CD pipelines and engineering workflows.

• Collaborate with cloud-hosted applications and infrastructure across platforms like AWS, Cloudflare, Google Cloud, or similar providers.

• Employ Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, Pulumi, or similar technologies to facilitate repeatable and scalable testing environments.

• Work closely with platform engineers to grasp system architecture, production behavior, and infrastructure limitations.

• Analyze test outcomes and production-like workloads to pinpoint scalability risks before changes impact real-world traffic.

• Assist in establishing the technical standards, systems, and processes for a new engineering-focused testing function.

⛳️ Requirements

• Significant professional software engineering experience with the capability to independently design, develop, and maintain software systems.

• Proficient coding skills in TypeScript, Python, or other modern programming languages.

• Experience in creating automated testing systems, engineering tools, testing infrastructure, or similar software-driven quality solutions.

• Practical experience with load testing, performance testing, stress testing, synthetic testing, or large-scale application validation.

• Familiarity with applications or platforms serving millions of users, ideally at a scale of multi-million or tens-of-millions.

• Experience with cloud-hosted applications and infrastructure utilizing AWS, Google Cloud, Cloudflare, or equivalent platforms.

• Strong grasp of DevOps, platform engineering, infrastructure, scalability, and contemporary software deployment practices.

• Experience with CI/CD and integrating automated validation into continuous integration and deployment processes.

• Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Pulumi, or similar technologies.

• Comprehensive understanding of application performance concepts, including latency, bandwidth, throughput, scalability, reliability, and infrastructure optimization.

• Ability to independently investigate complex technical challenges and devise solutions with minimal oversight.

• Excellent written and spoken English skills, with the ability to articulate technical decisions and collaborate effectively with a distributed engineering team.

• Preferred: Experience supporting globally distributed applications that attract tens of millions of monthly visitors.

• Preferred: Experience with high-traffic e-commerce platforms or other large-scale consumer-facing applications.

• Preferred: Experience working with custom or internally developed platforms rather than primarily testing third-party or off-the-shelf software.

• Preferred: Experience optimizing applications or infrastructure where speed, latency, bandwidth, and infrastructure cost are critical factors.

• Preferred: Experience building testing infrastructure or frameworks from the ground up rather than mainly working within established QA systems.

• Preferred: Background in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, Platform Engineering, performance engineering, or infrastructure engineering.

• Preferred: Experience in fast-paced startup or lean engineering settings where engineers have substantial ownership and autonomy.
