Senior Software Developer – CI

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Design and establish the Bazel-based architecture for building and testing within Checkmk’s Build & Test Platform.

• Take ownership of and enhance the Bazel configuration across multiple concurrently maintained versions of the product.

• Lead efforts in ensuring hermeticity, managing dependency boundaries, overseeing toolchain management, and facilitating architectural migrations.

• Assess and optimize build and test durations, incorporating remote caching, remote execution, and cache hit rates.

• Create pipeline architecture, develop build and release tools, and implement failure diagnostics.

• Enhance the developer experience by assisting developers in understanding and independently resolving failures.

• Collaborate with product teams, quality assurance, and the broader CI team.

• Identify developer challenges and translate them into a technical roadmap.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong experience with Bazel, particularly in Platform, Toolchains, and Rules.

• Willingness to engage with new technologies.

• Experience or a background in Python programming, or an openness to learning it.

• Proficiency in using Linux command-line for navigation and troubleshooting.

• Interest in contributing to an open-source environment.

• Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines.

• Capability to design build systems using tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI.

• Skilled in scripting and automation using Python and Bash.

• Knowledge of dependency management, caching, and distributed builds.

• Familiarity with containerization technologies, particularly Docker.

• Experience managing monorepos and large-scale codebases is an advantage.

• A proactive approach and strong problem-solving abilities.

• Capability to collaborate effectively across teams.

• Proficient communication skills in English.
