Senior Software Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and deploy backend services and REST APIs on AWS, incorporating serverless and event-driven components.

• Collaborate with architects, technical leads, and product owners to transform a shared vision into detailed designs and deliverables.

• Establish engineering standards for quality, security, resiliency, and operational efficiency.

• Demonstrate leadership in code reviews and guide developers through mentoring, pairing, and constructive feedback.

• Create reusable solutions, frameworks, automation, and orchestration for a wide variety of applications.

• Ensure quality throughout the development process by implementing unit and integration tests, integrating CI/CD, and performing refactoring.

• Plan and execute complex technical projects from initial design to final delivery.

• Break down tasks, identify risks early on, and assist the team during rollout phases.

• Maintain operational health using observability tools, participate in on-call duties, and respond to incidents.

• Utilize AI tools in the processes of design, coding, testing, and debugging while upholding standards for review and testing.

• Work collaboratively with a globally distributed team and engage with various stakeholders.

• Communicate effectively in writing, ensuring decisions and context are transparent.

⛳️ Requirements

• BA/BS in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Proven experience in mentoring developers and participating in design reviews.

• Over 5 years of professional experience in building and deploying backend software.

• Strong expertise in at least one backend programming language (Java, TypeScript, Python, Go, Ruby, etc.).

• Experience in designing, developing, and versioning APIs.

• Solid grasp of relational databases, including schema design and query optimization techniques.

• Advanced knowledge of AWS services (Lambda, SQS/SNS, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, IAM).

• Practical experience in building and managing serverless, event-driven services.

• Experience in owning CI/CD pipelines and deployments, including safe rollout and rollback methodologies.

• Established testing discipline: unit, integration, and end-to-end testing, with testing integrated into the delivery pipeline.

• Hands-on experience with observability and troubleshooting tools.

• Familiarity with utilizing AI coding assistants in daily engineering activities.

• Ability to review, test, and validate AI-generated code prior to deployment.
