This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Take full ownership of the comprehensive delivery of the sensor product portfolio, encompassing hardware design, embedded software, signal processing, and verification.
• Direct a unified engineering team that comprises development managers, senior contributors, and early-career professionals.
• Propel the execution of the next-generation perimeter intrusion detection platform while maintaining and supporting deployed products throughout their extended lifecycles.
• Navigate the balance between new product development, sustaining engineering, field escalations, and manufacturing support, clearly articulating trade-offs.
• Collaborate with the systems architect responsible for cross-system design authority; manage delivery, staffing, and execution.
• Partner with the AI/ML specialist to implement neural-network-based detection within embedded sensor platforms.
• Intentionally develop team members, including coaching managers and fostering the growth of technical and early-career staff.
• Lead efforts across various sites and customer locations.
• Oversee planning and roadmap commitments in collaboration with Product Management, including estimation, resource allocation, and make/buy decisions.
• Supervise design services and documentation interfaces with manufacturing, ensuring compliance with design-for-manufacture and regulatory requirements.
• Ensure quality outcomes, including the escalation and resolution of complex field issues involving hardware, firmware, and installation environments.
• Establish engineering standards, design review protocols, and delivery discipline across hardware and embedded software.
• Attract and retain top-tier engineering talent.
• Demonstrated engineering leadership experience overseeing combined hardware and embedded software teams, including the management of other managers.
• Strong technical foundation in at least one core sensor domain—embedded systems, signal processing, RF, electro-optics/photonics, or electronics design—enabling credibility with senior specialists in each area.
• Proven experience in delivering physical products from concept through design, verification, certification, manufacturing transfer, and field support.
• Familiarity with long-lifecycle products where backward compatibility, support for the installed base, and reliability are critical factors.
• A successful history of developing engineers, including mentoring first-time managers and technical leads, and advancing early-career professionals.
• Proven ability to lead senior individual contributors and collaborate effectively with architect-level peers not under direct management.
• Experience leading distributed or multi-site engineering teams.
• Strong skills in delivery and planning discipline, including estimation, prioritization, and consistent execution across parallel hardware and software workstreams.
