Senior Scientific Director, Neurodegenerative Diseases

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop the scientific strategy for the neurodegenerative disease division within Danaher Diagnostics.

• Convert strategy into comprehensive evidence plans that direct portfolio, technology roadmap, and product development choices.

• Oversee key research initiatives from start to finish, which includes forming academic partnerships and managing a multimodal patient registry.

• Take responsibility for scientific design, execution, milestones, and results.

• Organize and lead advisory boards and leadership forums.

• Establish and represent expert networks across academic institutions, consortia, and professional societies.

• Collaborate with diagnostics, biopharma, and academic partners on research, validation studies, and publications.

• Assess external innovation and collaboration possibilities in the field of neurodegeneration.

• Formulate investment recommendations alongside the Chief Scientific Officer.

• Integrate Danaher Business System standards, metrics, and AI-driven practices throughout the scientific agenda.

• Influence and lead through scientific authority and cross-functional collaboration rather than through direct personnel management.

⛳️ Requirements

• MD, MD/PhD, or PhD in medicine, neuroscience, or a related field.

• Significant post-qualification experience in diagnostics, biopharma, biotechnology, or academic medicine.

• Robust senior scientific, clinical, or translational leadership experience, engaging with external expert networks and scientific advisory boards on a global scale.

• Profound knowledge in the development of neurologic disease biomarkers from initial discovery to clinical application.

• Familiarity with assay performance characteristics and pre-analytical factors.

• Understanding of analytical validation, clinical validation, and clinical utility.

• Experience in leading clinical strategy and evidence generation initiatives in neurodegenerative diseases or related specialty areas.

• Responsibility for study design, execution within set timelines, results, and publication.

• Knowledge of in vitro diagnostic product development.

• Familiarity with regulatory pathways, including U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance and European Union In Vitro Diagnostic Regulation.

• Understanding of evidence requirements that support diagnostic claims.

• Capability to draft and critically evaluate protocols, study reports, and peer-reviewed manuscripts.

• Proficient in summarizing scientific work into executive decision-making materials.

• Willingness to travel approximately 30%, both domestically and internationally, including overnight trips.

• A medical degree with clinical experience in neurology, psychiatry, geriatrics, or a related specialty is highly preferred.

• Previous clinical experience caring for patients with neurologic and neurodegenerative disorders is advantageous.

• Experience in biospecimen or clinical data repository creation and management, multimodal data platform initiatives, and real-world evidence generation is a plus.

• Prior collaborations on companion diagnostics or master research agreements in neurology within the biopharma sector is a plus.

• Experience with the Danaher Business System or a similar operational excellence framework is a plus.

• Recognized expertise in the neurodegeneration domain is a plus.
