Senior Researcher

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take the lead in the development of SCORE algorithms, with primary responsibility for the Resilience pillar while also supporting other SCORE pillars.

• Monitor emerging industry standards to ensure Pearl SCORE is in line with cutting-edge research.

• Stay updated on new home performance and resilience technologies and incorporate them into Pearl SCORE.

• Collaborate with national and international experts to enhance SCORE methodology.

• Assist the public programs division in defining SCORE's roles within resilience, energy, and other initiatives.

• Contribute to studies that connect home resilience features with natural disaster impacts, including physical damage, insurance claims, and replacement expenses.

• Identify data sources for accurately generating SCOREs at scale, such as U.S. census, permit, and insurance information.

• Write or co-write research papers that document SCORE methodology and findings.

• Create or co-create blogs and other materials to communicate SCORE research to both popular and industry audiences.

• Advocate for Pearl’s research through publications and engagement with experts in the field.

⛳️ Requirements

• A background in residential resilience research and/or standards.

• Proven experience in developing or maintaining scoring methodologies, algorithms, or technical standards.

• Strong understanding of residential building performance, resilience measures, and associated technologies.

• Experience in tracking and interpreting the development of industry standards, including building codes, resilience ratings, and energy performance standards.

• Exceptional written communication skills.

• Experience in authoring technical research papers and content aimed at general audiences.

• Capability to engage credibly with external subject matter experts and represent Pearl in both professional and academic environments.

• An advanced degree in a relevant field is preferred, such as building science, environmental science, engineering, resilience/hazard mitigation, or public policy.

• Published research in residential resilience, home performance, or a related area is preferred.

• Familiarity with Pearl’s SCORE or similar home performance scoring systems is preferred.

• Experience working with data science or modeling teams on algorithm development is preferred.

• Comfortable working semi-independently while maintaining support and collaboration across the S&R team.
