This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.
• Assist a faculty member with various tasks associated with a research project.
• Investigate pertinent legal source materials.
• Conduct evaluations of relevant academic literature.
• Analyze data sets.
• Compose and revise articles and books intended for scholarly publication.
• Perform case coding.
• Ensure correct formatting and citations.
• Support faculty research initiatives.
• Report directly to Dr. Jamillah Bowman Williams.
• Work autonomously and collaboratively as a part of a research team.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or current enrollment in an undergraduate degree program.
• Proven interest in legal research, law, public policy, or a related field.
• Strong research and analytical problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the capacity to clearly and concisely synthesize complex information.
• Outstanding organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
• Capability to manage multiple projects and adhere to deadlines in an academic research context.
• Proficient in standard office and research software (e.g., Microsoft Office or Google Workspace).
• Eagerness to learn legal research databases and data management systems.
• Ability to function both independently and as part of a research team.
• Previous research experience in an academic, policy, or legal environment (preferred).
• Experience in conducting literature reviews or legal research utilizing academic journals, policy reports, or legal databases such as Westlaw or LexisNexis (preferred).
• Familiarity with legal citation formats like Bluebook or experience in editing academic or legal writing (preferred).
• Experience in supporting data collection, qualitative research, or policy analysis (preferred).
• Interest in pursuing law school, graduate studies, or a career in law, legal scholarship, or public policy (preferred).
