Senior Research Manager, Weather Data Systems

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Develop, assess, and implement evidence-based weather solutions tailored for smallholder farmers.

• Create and manage a system that transforms real-time scientific forecasting data into specific farmer messages automatically.

• Customize the system for various dissemination platforms and channels, including voice, SMS, WhatsApp, applications, and LLM-driven advisory systems.

• Reduce latency and guarantee prompt, accurate delivery of time-sensitive forecasting information.

• Take ownership of technical and process requirements necessary for replicating the system across different regions and applications.

• Interpret scientific forecasting outputs and technical system limitations for research and program teams.

• Supervise data management, conduct quality checks, and test the system as it expands.

• Document the architecture of the system, decision-making processes, and justifications.

• Collaborate with dissemination teams to ensure that automated messages adhere to field research standards.

• Advise teams on data quality and technical rigor for new applications and regions.

• Mentor Associate and Manager-level staff.

• Assist with funding proposals, reports, and the management of institutional knowledge regarding weather data systems.

⛳️ Requirements

• A degree in a technical, quantitative, or data-related discipline (such as computer science, data science, engineering, statistics, or a related field); candidates with economics or agricultural economics backgrounds possessing strong technical abilities are also welcome.

• Experience in constructing or managing a data pipeline, preferably with real-time or automated data processing.

• Proficiency in Python, SQL, or similar programming tools and languages.

• Ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical teams, effectively bridging the gap between forecasting science, engineering, and program requirements.

• Experience in designing systems intended for replication or scaling, rather than one-time construction.

• Excellent documentation practices and the capacity to make a technical system comprehensible to those who did not create it.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

• Current authorization to work in India; PxD is unable to provide visa sponsorship.
