This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Conduct testing and routine maintenance on power equipment used in Transmission and Distribution substations.
• Perform tests on electro-mechanical, solid state, and microprocessor relaying systems.
• Evaluate pilot channel equipment, which includes power line carrier, pilot wire, transfer, transfer trip, fiber optic, CVTs, line tuners, and line traps.
• Test controls and communications apparatus.
• Read and accurately interpret substation schematics, such as single line diagrams, AC and DC schematics, panel wiring diagrams, and panel layout drawings.
• Assist in drafting procedures and test plans for maintenance and construction operations.
• Read and confirm voltage and current inputs to relays.
• Verify local and SCADA metering and alarm systems.
• Calibrate relays as required.
• Execute local and SCADA trip testing.
• Validate function switches.
• Troubleshoot and repair substation relaying and control systems.
• Commission new substations, power equipment, relays, pilot channel systems, controls, and communications devices.
• Organize, schedule, and execute testing activities efficiently, ensuring timely completion without service interruptions.
• Provide technical project support to Field Service personnel.
• At least 5 years of field experience in commissioning, panel and equipment checkout, relay calibration, as well as testing and repairing substation relaying and control systems.
• Preferred experience in substation design, construction, commissioning, and installation/testing of SCADA/Fault Data/SER/Integration-Automation equipment.
• In-depth knowledge of three-phase power systems and power system protection and control schemes.
• Familiarity with test equipment and associated software.
• Proficient in the use of test equipment, tools, and wiring.
• Ability to read and interpret wiring and elementary diagrams.
• Basic testing skills necessary to execute the listed responsibilities.
• Fundamental PC skills.
• Capability to swiftly learn and implement testing procedures for various types of substation equipment.
• Strong communication skills to interact effectively with diverse groups, adapting communication to the audience and context.
• Willingness to understand and apply client’s switching procedures and safety protocols.
• Competence to reference and complete tasks as outlined in relevant specifications.
• Capability to perform fieldwork in both indoor and outdoor settings regularly.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, business acumen, and management skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
• Possession of a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
• Effective communication in English, including reading and writing skills, to navigate safety-related materials, documentation, and client interactions.
