This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Conduct research and analysis of federal and state laws and regulations that impact CCM’s business operations.
• Offer legal counsel and recommendations to leadership and business stakeholders.
• Draft legal memoranda and detailed analyses on intricate regulatory and compliance issues.
• Interpret new and revised regulatory requirements and assess their relevance to CCM.
• Collaborate with the regulatory change implementation team on impact assessments and communication regarding regulatory updates.
• Aid in the implementation of regulatory changes, which includes updating policies and procedures.
• Review and address escalated legal and compliance issues.
• Assess borrower rescission requests and provide guidance on necessary actions and timelines.
• Offer advice on post-closing compliance issues, corrective actions, cures, and remediation efforts.
• Assist with power-of-attorney and trust evaluations for loan transactions.
• Manage and prioritize legal and compliance issues related to origination.
• Translate legal and regulatory requirements into risk-based business guidance.
• Transform regulatory requirements into business and system specifications, controls, and processes for platforms such as Encompass, Mavent, and others.
• Oversee, train, and mentor a junior attorney.
• Collaborate with the EVP, Regulatory Counsel on complex regulatory issues and business challenges.
• Keep the EVP, Regulatory Counsel updated on significant issues, emerging risks, and priorities.
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.
• Active bar license in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• More than 5 years of experience in legal or regulatory compliance within mortgage lending or financial services.
• Proven experience in interpreting regulatory changes and advising on their application.
• Preferred experience in supervising or mentoring attorneys or compliance professionals.
• In-depth knowledge of mortgage origination laws and regulations, including TILA/Regulation Z, RESPA/Regulation X, ECOA/Regulation B, HMDA, FCRA, the SAFE Act, UDAAP, and state lending and licensing requirements.
• Advanced skills in legal research, analysis, and writing.
• Ability to translate regulatory requirements into operational and technological specifications.
• Strong communication, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
• Sound judgment for effectively managing a high volume of cases and competing deadlines.
• Excellent collaboration and organizational skills.
• Experience with loan origination systems, preferably Encompass.
• Familiarity with compliance technology such as Mavent.
