Senior Regional Director

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Formulate and implement strategies in California that promote solar energy, distributed energy resources, storage solutions, affordability, grid modernization, and energy justice initiatives.

• Provide guidance on state-level legislation that opens doors for solar, storage, and distributed energy resources.

• Support policy positions and campaign strategies that are shaped by partners, technical knowledge, and community needs.

• Collaborate with the Deputy Program Director to influence California’s long-term policy and political direction.

• Align legislative, regulatory, and campaign strategies with the Regulatory Director.

• Engage in lobbying, testify, and educate lawmakers on relevant issues.

• Oversee and support California campaign staff, including the Regulatory Director.

• Promote staff development, leadership growth, accountability, trust, belonging, collaboration, and psychological safety.

• Offer strategic guidance, coaching, and support to staff handling California campaigns and partnerships.

• Establish and work alongside stakeholder coalitions that include frontline communities, environmental justice advocates, consumer advocates, energy efficiency supporters, solar and energy storage developers, as well as electric vehicle advocates.

• Pursue personal learning and contribute to the organization's diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

• Integrate equity into the internal practices and culture of the organization.

• Work collaboratively on personal, professional, and organization-wide learning regarding race, class, gender, justice, and equity.

• Report to the Deputy Program Director for the West while coordinating with California regulatory, communications, and grassroots organizing personnel.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline.

• Over seven years of pertinent work experience, including expertise in regulatory oversight, research, or advocacy.

• Proven ability to implement advocacy strategies, encompassing direct lobbying, policy analysis, coalition building, and writing policy documents that distill complex issues for public understanding.

• Comprehensive understanding of California’s energy landscape, which includes solar energy, storage, distributed energy resources, grid modernization, utility regulations, and emerging opportunities in clean energy.

• Experience in managing, mentoring, or developing staff, as well as in building collaborative, high-performing teams.

• Familiarity with California’s regulatory frameworks, including the California Public Utilities Commission, California Energy Commission, and/or California Independent System Operator.

• Capability to collaborate with team members on data visualization and public policy communications.

• Effective engagement with diverse populations and allies.

• Strong commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace, as well as to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice principles.
