Senior Quality Engineer – Underwriting

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the testing strategy and quality signals for underwriting decision-making, which includes modifications to rules, evidence incorporation, risk categorization, and case results.

• Develop test scenarios that mirror real-world underwriting complexities, encompassing various impairments, sources of evidence, table ratings, and edge cases.

• Assess the rules engine's performance across releases through regression testing of decision results and API agreements.

• Convert underwriting requirements into verifiable acceptance criteria in collaboration with underwriters, actuaries, and product teams prior to coding.

• Construct and enhance automated checks at the API and data levels in partnership with the core Quality Engineering (QE) team.

• Progress towards complete ownership of automation within the underwriting sector.

• Analyze production underwriting discrepancies by conducting root cause analysis aimed at defect prevention.

• Act as the primary resource in the QE organization for underwriting accuracy.

• Report directly to the Quality Engineering Director.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of experience in life insurance, with significant time spent in or closely related to underwriting.

• Proficient understanding of underwriting evidence and processes, including application Parts 1 and 2, MIB, Rx and MVR data, APS management, table ratings, NIGO workflows, and accelerated or automated underwriting initiatives.

• Practical experience in configuring, analyzing, or testing at least one underwriting rules engine or decision-making platform, such as AURA, Magnum, FAST, or a carrier-developed engine.

• Strong SQL skills sufficient for independently verifying data outcomes.

• Experience in drafting structured test cases or acceptance criteria and defending quality decisions to engineering and business stakeholders.

• Familiarity with test automation in code such as JavaScript/TypeScript, Playwright, pytest, or similar technologies is advantageous.

• Familiarity with API testing tools and CI/CD processes is a plus.

• Exposure to annuities, including suitability reviews, 1035 exchanges, and income rider mechanics, is beneficial.

• Must reside within the contiguous 48 states of the United States.

• Must be capable of working full-time in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship.
