Senior Quality Assurance Engineer, Historian

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Validating complex issues independently with minimal guidance, including those with regression risks.

• Contributing both solutions and new tests to automated test suites; mentoring junior Quality Assurance Engineers on automation tasks.

• Accurately diagnosing run failure reports and transforming them into actionable tasks.

• Concentrating on testing-related aspects throughout the development lifecycle, including assessing requirement testability, implementation, and testing, in collaboration with development teams.

• Consistently achieving target thresholds for the execution of regression tests; adding manual test cases as necessary, identifying inadequate test cases, and providing guidance on test case creation and execution.

• Developing and implementing test plans that cover all functional requirements; determining suitable test strategies for medium to high complexity bugs and features within relevant Ignition product areas.

• Striving to maintain an advanced level of proficiency across multiple Ignition product areas within the team’s domain; becoming a subject matter expert in a specific product area.

• Simplifying complex testing efforts into manageable phases that can be executed by less experienced engineers.

• Prioritizing tasks that are unassigned or less desirable to help the team operate more efficiently.

• Demonstrating autonomy while ensuring quality and timely delivery; effectively resolving medium-scale blockers or challenges.

• Collaborating with the Quality Assurance team and other teams to address issues; escalating problems with broader implications.

• Cultivating relationships with stakeholders, including customers, product managers, cross-functional partners, and external collaborators.

• Ensuring knowledge sharing within the team to prevent any individual or group from becoming a single point of failure.

• Addressing issues and sharing expertise by enhancing the execution across various divisions, such as Support, Training, and Sales.

• Aiming for and maintaining an advanced understanding of industries utilizing Ignition, our customer base, and the role of SCADA software.

• Staying informed about the company, its values, the contributions of each division, and the company’s impact on the industry.

• Assisting junior engineers with challenges and supporting their technical development.

• Strengthening the team by providing insights and recommendations to managers and other leaders.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.

• 3-5 years of industry experience.

• Strong troubleshooting skills in a complex application environment, including debugging errors, identifying performance issues, parsing logs and stack traces, and determining reproducible steps for problems.

• Proficient in at least one programming language, with a solid understanding of functions, conditional statements, and basic object-oriented concepts (Python, Java/JavaScript, C++).

• Comprehensive understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and its various phases.

• Skilled in using source control management systems, such as Git, with common operations (cloning and checking out repositories and branches, committing, and resolving merge conflicts).

• Proficient in setting up and querying SQL databases (MS SQL Server, MySQL, or similar).

• Experienced with Windows, Linux (Ubuntu), and macOS platforms, including command line operations and debugging applications running as services.

• Familiar with deploying applications using virtualization software (VMWare, Docker Desktop), including image creation, debugging running containers, and managing persistent data (volumes).

• Experienced with bug tracking systems and writing detailed bug reports.

• Knowledgeable about well-known protocols within the Internet protocol suite and their usage in applications (TCP/UDP, HTTP/HTTPS, IP).
